While we'd prefer for it not to have to reach panic levels of concern in the public eye, that concern does effectively focus a large portion of the population to alter their routines enough to help prevent further spread.

Sinister as it seems, the guy cares enough to straighten out the lil girl's shirt. Could be a way to ration bodybags. If they can fit 3 children in one, they should be able to fit 2 slim adults in one. Chilling indeed and bad news for any parents out there. For some reason I was under the impression that kids are more resilient to this virus then say the elderly.

Re: Wuhan Coronavirus Thread
Good evening, Tencent is not $.50 little brother but a Chinese news website. An article from Taiwan, in English, was circulating through the open source analysts at work. It claims that the Tencent website accidentally posted accurate coronavirus numbers before taking them down. They also point out the statistically night impossible trend of the mortality rate being 3.1% over across multiple days of the week.
It shows the infection rate at 154,000 and the death rate at just under 25,000. The article is well reasoned, but I’m always a little suspicious because Taiwan will pretty much take any opportunity to throw shade on the PRC. That said, the PRC is not covered in glory when it comes to revealing uncomfortable facts.

Re: Wuhan Coronavirus Thread
I think getting real infection rates is going to be difficult. The WHO is going to post confirmed cases and there's definitely cases that will not be listed on their numbers. However, it's VERY difficult to determine how many more cases are unreported. I'm slightly skeptical about all the videos of deaths in the streets. The problem is trying to determine fact from propaganda is difficult.Evan the Diplomat wrote: ↑Wed Feb 12, 2020 6:23 pmGood evening, Tencent is not $.50 little brother but a Chinese news website. A second person evacuated from Wuhan, China, to a U.S. Marine base near San Diego has been diagnosed with the new coronavirus, raising the tally of confirmed cases in the United States to 14, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported on Wednesday.

Re: Wuhan Coronavirus Thread
While I think that publicly the WHO, US CDC, etc. have to tiptoe around the PRC's narrative and desires for the time being (because ultimately they still need China's cooperation to contain an outbreak which nobody wants to spread any further), I have to believe that the PRC is under extreme pressure in private channels to share as truthful of information as they know with coordinating external parties. Perhaps later, once this situation has either concluded, or has somehow blown itself outside of China and into the rest of the world to a significant degree, we may learn from other parties what the real story was. For now, China has the overwhelming majority of cases, and the overwhelming majority of power to contain the outbreak, so the world as a whole needs their help.darmstrong wrote: ↑Wed Feb 12, 2020 11:12 pmI think getting real infection rates is going to be difficult. This is both concerning and in some ways reassuring as well as surprising. The US .mil is prepping for a pandemic. It is surprising because I am not used to seeing common sense preparations like that.
Note the new name COVID19 ... BOLO for use of this term in lieu of coronavirus.

Paris (AFP) - Global oil demand will suffer its first quarterly drop in a decade as the COVID-19 virus lashes the economy in China and its impact ripples throughout the world, the IEA said Thursday.
"Global oil demand has been hit hard by the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) and the widespread shutdown of China’s economy," the International Energy Agency said in its latest monthly report.
"Demand is now expected to fall by 435,000 barrels year-on-year in the first quarter of 2020, the first quarterly contraction in more than 10 years" when it dropped during the global economic crisis, it added.
While the IEA still expects demand for oil to grow for this year as the outbreak is contained, it slashed its forecast for the increase in global consumption by nearly a third to 825,000 barrels per day, the smallest increase since 2011.

I'm not surprised that the US .mil is prepping for a pandemic. Financial Institutions are mandated to have pandemic policies in place and this was WAY before 2019CoV
