"Daily COVID-19 SITREP In Your Area"

This isn't going away anytime soon folks and with all the new variants of COVID-19 popping up it just made sense to drop COVID-19 from the sub-section name and consolidate all the pandemic stuff in one location.

Our grocery is a Krogers, but not a superstore. It closes at midnight. Only the self-check area is open after at least 10pm. Always with only one associate taking care of it.

I left at midnight leaving five people still checking out in the self-check with carts filled high. Items in the carts, grocery bags in the carts & on the floor while they continued, and three associates helping them.

I've shopped there for 15 years and have never seen that.

Interesting shopping today for the canned meat I'm doing in light of the JBS meat processing hack. Today was the second trip to gently increase my canned meat preps. Now, canned chicken was typical purchase during first of the month paycheck, nominal reduction in store stocks. But here's an odd one in my experience with this store; all the brand named salmon was gone. Just a empty section where it was yeaterday. And all the canned roast beef was gone too. I mean, if anyone was watching the news about the beef company hack the canned beef would be explainable. Especially if there's another prepper in my neighborhood. But this is only anecdotal because I have no car to go see comparisons at other and larger groceries. And certainly, it could be just a one-off high demand for salmon. But, dang, the stock was fine when I checked early yesterday and there was a Lot of salmon. 🙂 So I waited until today to make my second of the three trips to restock my own preps. 😐 And today Spam stock was lower than I had expected so I just went ahead and bought the rest of the Spam and salmon I needed. Granted, six can of each doesn't count for much generally, but this is not a large store much less a superstore, and being a prepper just coming out of sixteen months of a pandemic I'm always scanning for oddities in stocks. Ah, I should have gone over to the fresh meat to see what's what there. My bad. I only purchased the three cans of chicken though. I buy the final three later, as scheduled.

So, who bought all that other salmon anyway? 😄 That was a Lot of salmon.
And in my m-a-n-y years of experience with 'this' store salmon never moves fast.

Things are looking really good at work. 65% of the work force is vaccinated, two active cases and one suspected positive among a population of 14000 employees in two major metro areas.
