South Korea Unicorn Bag

Post by hawk55732 » Wed Mar 07, 2012 7:44 pm

So I came across this bag at a local shop in South Korea. http://www.gounicorn.com/front/product/ ... cate_seq=3 It seems like a decent bag. Seems well built but before I spend 80 bucks on it I am wondering if anyone has any experience with this bag or the company. Any info would be welcomed.

This is the thing about Korean stuff. Some of it is OK. Most of it is pure junk made by low paid seamstresses that get paid by the piece. I have yet to see anything come out of Korea (including actual ROKA gear) that was excellent. Normally the problems are crappy stitching, junk zippers (despite YKK being Korean), and less than durable plastic coated nylon (which they laughingly call "tactical nylon"). Looking at where it's made (Pyongtaek - near the Hump) chances are it's out of one of the industrial district sweatshops.

I hope you get a good piece of gear, but don't expect anything better than say Condor/Voodoo grade.

Thats what I am thinking. It seems like a well made bag. I also really like the design of it. I am almost tempted to get it and see how it holds up.

Looks like a clone of the Maxpedition FalconII, which is a helluva little pack. The real deal runs about twice that but you can find them on fleabay for around $125 or so.

The pygmy (which holds around the same as that Korean pack) can be found for $80
