2 more days. YEAAAA. And the forecast keeps revising colder and colder.

Bring it.

...well, "cold" here, being mid to upper 20's, and cloudy but low chance of precipitation. But yea, bring, ummm, it...

There were some real good entries posted in the last few days. Remember posting an entry in a ZS mock bugout = street cred so get off the sidelines.

:D Often I have to head a little bit south to see them. Around my parts we have mostly Mountain Laurels.

Bag is packed, everything finally in place for my WMBO hike. My mockSHTF starts early tomorrow morning. Looks like the weather will be interesting, to say the least.
Tomorrow: Mostly cloudy. High 51F. Winds SW at 5 to 10 mph.
Tomorrow night: Rain showers early mixing with snow showers late. Low 33F. Winds W at 5 to 10 mph. Chance of precip 60%.
Saturday: Becoming windy. Snow flurries in the early morning will give way to partly cloudy skies during the day. High 42F. NW winds at 10 to 20 mph, increasing to 20 to 30 mph.
Sunday: Flurries and windy. Highs in the low 40s and lows in the upper teens
OH YEAAA. Personally, I feel temps in the 30's/40's with precipitation can be more dangerous than temps in the single digits. Its just warm enough to fool you, a light drizzle can soak you just as deeply as a downpour, and hypothermia can sneak up quick. Should be interesting.

So I'm set to camp out tmr night just in the local woods - it is going to go down to around 5f I think at the lowest.

A friend is joining for his first wild camping experience! We will each be using our hammocks and hopefully won't have to bail because of the cold...

I for one might try another trip later in the month if the avalanche dangers start to lift :/

More trips this weekend, sweet! I just scored another fatwood log, so I may be giving up additional prizes for something like best shelter, camp meal, or fail... who knows.

This new score lights up real nice, burns great, and loves the wind. :D

My report is up, learn quite a bit. Mostly learned my limits and it's fine to quit and go home. And that my pack sucks. Recommend me a light weight pack that is good on space and is around $100. I also need a small two person tent. Everything worked I just need to tweak some things.

I got one of these awhile back (Jan 2011) for longer trips

It's not been bad. The clips can sometimes take a beating, but the seams have held up.

Cool, I put in my Amazon cart for next pay day. Mr. Dark has a pack I'm going to check out but that looks good to me. Thanks!

Yeah, Omega Man told me I was doing it wrong @ 35L. I'm either going with Mr.Dark's 55L bag or Elricfate's suggestion with a 90L bag. I like big. [/Size queen] I'm new to all this pack thing since all I've ever used in a military style bag.

If you have an rei near you, you can go there and try everything on. They have weighted dry sacks you can toss in the bags and walk around the store with them for as long as you like. I found my osprey 48 that way. Fits me nicely. Backpacks are one of those things that might fit one person well, and another person will feel like they have a monkey with knife hands on his back. Srsly recommend going to try em. Osprey is a little more expensive, but they are lightweight and of good material and construction. Rei outlet has mine and a 65L on clearance, higher than your budget still. Here's links just for fun

Mine:

the bigger one
http://www.rei.com/product/837187/ospre ... 1-closeout" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I also like how you can use the lid as a gear grabber clamp down thing too. I stuff a rolled usgi poncho and wool blanket under mine.
