I always thought the larger belts are meant to run with a small pack unattached. I've seen setups on the webz with small chest rig, small pack and a wider "war belt" kind of thing. I like that idea. But, I think you could get a belt setup to meet whatever you need it. Keeping things separate, I was thinking of the UW Swamp Fox split chest rig, I narrow type belt, and a day pack sized (25L??) backpack. Easy on, easy off. I could drop the pack and/or the chest rig and still keep the belt on,.. if I had to drop trou on the go I wouldn't have to futz around with more than my belt. I think it would give you options to drop the pack for in and out of a vehicle and and also run a higher holster to remain comfy while riding and driving. For my purposes I don't think the wide belt will work. With a normal width belt, I could add or remove the pack and the chest rig as needed. See, Brothaman gotta move and be free.
I'm personally looking to try and ditch the pack and let the belt be the core of the setup for a single day outing. I'm focused on hunting,.. with is like Patrol I guess. On days when I can really scoot and shoot all day, I might cover 600+ acres or occasionally 1000 (depending on the AO). Most days I'm in a blind or stand. I'm starting with an HSGI cobra belt with a micro grip panel (

https://www.highspeedgear.com/hsgi/31OV-31OV.htmll ). My current set up is strictly for bump in the night stuff. It's carrying a Holster, gun with weapon light, extra mags, and a flash light all sized to be worn in me skivvies. I was thinking I need to fit a water bottle, my phone and bit of food, a flattened quarter roll of TP, a roll up dump pouch, small fixed blade knife, flash light, deer call, a double Taco, and my tags and hunting license. Likely, I'd only have the one rifle mag in the rifle but I'd like to keep a mag pouch accessible in case I run into DNR or hitch a ride from a friend on the walk back. Just for safety and other folks piece of mind. Even for an honest patrol (i'm just a hick and have no idea how a real patrol should run) I'm thinking the a mag in the rifle and one on the hip should suffice. And,. I was thinking that if I wasn't getting enough on the belt for a single day of hunting, I have a Hill People Kit Bag that would help me keep it light and carry a little more.
It stops being funny when it starts being you.
