Picked up a pair of West German wool cargo pants yesterday at a local Army Surplus store, they were having a 25% off everything in the store sale. Figured it was about time I got a pair after hearing so much rave reviews of them.

Stock photo not my own
Image

Now the question is does anyone actually know what the ties in the cargo pockets are meant for?
These things
Image
I noticed there is a little hole to let these be threaded out of the pocket so I am guessing they are made to be utilized outside of the pants. I read on one blog they are possibly designed as a tourniquet, though he didn't seem so sure about that. I would love to know if there is a useful function for these ties.

Whetstone Cutlery Brute Machete - Around $16 on Amazon. Needed something to replace my old machete for Springtime chores. Seems durable, has a sawback blade, too.

Fenix E25 Flashlight - 260 max lumens powered by two common AA batteries. Very bright, very sturdy

Spyderco Tenacious - Needed a new EDC blade. My first Spyderco and it didn't disappoint.

Fobus holster - paddle style holster that fits my S&W well. Mainly for the car, home and shooting range.

Smith's Tri Hone Arkansas stone sharpening kit - My first real sharpening set up with 3 stones. Slow to sharpen but gets the blade where it needs to be.

S&W Shield 9 - Not yet mine but soon...

Been meaning to talk to my grandpa about getting his old carving knives. Wouldn't mind having a few around to play with especially while camping. I have a really nice piece of maple that's dried that I would like to turn into a nice little walking stick. I'd be cool to have some nice carvings in it.

Nice choices by the way.

The straps are to "blouse" the pants and keep them tight against your leg....nice score I have been using mine since the mid 80's and would love to find another pair. took 10 years or so for the mothball smell to fade.

Ah that makes sense. Thanks. Yes they are great. Though we have had a warm winter here in the Pac NW so not much chance to wear them.

I picked them up at Hardwicks, great shop.

If he is willing to part with them do it. Some of the older stuff is way better than what you can affordably get these days.

Just picked up some Black Powder supplies, to be able to cast my own bullets, and a couple other extra pieces of BP gear.

Ted Cash capper
(though I still need to dremmel my cylinders nipple recesses for my 1858 Remmington to allow use of this capper)
Image

Lee Double Cavity Round Ball Mold
Image

Lee Conical BP Revolver Bullet Mold (still have to go back and pick this one up, it wasn't in yet when I got the rest)
Image

Lyman Casting Dipper (I like that it has an easy to remove handle, that can be put on left or right)
Image

Triple K Leather Double Magazine Pouch (I already had one, I only have 2 spare cylinders at the moment, but plan to get 2 more eventually, right now I carry extra caps in one cylinder pouch, and extra round balls in the other)
Image

I also sold off my old game cart, and upgraded to this Cabela's Deluxe Game Cart (rated to 500 lbs, folding, and independent axles for each wheel means better clearance)
I plan to do a little bug out/game cart review of this when I get some decent weather to take pictures and some time to give it at least a minimal field testing. I also eventually plan to add a harness system to be able to pull this hands free.

Added a .308 Windham rifle & mags to the armory. Picked up some Randall knives to put in some of my packs. Misc first aid supplies, checked and rotated out supplies that have expired.

Mine is the black model with the skeleton stock. I should have said "survival rifle"...Ha! I'll still have my AR, Boom-stick, and pistols, but this is something I can easily through in a back-pack, and won't realize it's there until I need it.

It's already threaded for a silencer, and the Piccatiny rail is standard. There's a foregrip you can get with it that contains a cleaning kit.
