Flying Lead that is a great idea. I will be off to the hardware store after work to put this together.

You really can't make out the tent but it's this one:

It's a replica Civil War Officer's tent...commonly known as a canvas Wall Tent.

Neat. Tagging for future reference.

I really do love this thread. I am hoping to get out and do a weekend hike with a standard USGI bivy, just because I like to see how the other half lives from time to time. Should be fun. (plus I get a discount at the chiropracter, so meh)

I will be sure to get pics.

Are the bottom edges supposed to be up off the ground like that? What is the theory behind that? I'd think it would let in a terrible draft. Or do you need that with the wood stove?

Cool. I was just wondering if that was a strategy or something. :) I've never used a floorless tent. Well except in the Marine Corps once in mountain training. But it was this huge canvas thing with an almost full stove in it. Wasn't even part of our training. Just a place to stay at base camp. I admire your tents. Once I end up having to tent in a dryer climate I will for sure be picking up one of your tents. Would be perfect for an elk hunt in eastern washington.

A Kelty Salida 2 is my general purpose go to tent. I use it for backpacking and bike and car camping. Roomy enough for me and my gear but not much else. One vestibule and one door. I've ridden out some pretty rough storms with it. Good tent.

Image

I recently bought a Kelty Trailridge 3 for some more chill out room in the tent, for crappy weather days and what not. I haven't used it yet other than to set it up after it came in to make sure I knew what I was doing with it haha, so no pics of it in action. Has a dual door/vestibule setup which I really like.

My lightweight setup is simply a USGI bivy sack and a sleeping bag from the Modular Sleep System. Simple and quick to setup and pack up. I usually only use this during the winter time. I don't like bugs and snakes haha so during the summer I try to bring a tent.
