Vietcong sandals.
Not really bug out related. Well sort of. I thought these homemade sandals showed some real ingenuity. I've heard about these. But never seen a close up pic of a pair. Looks like they would last forever. Easy to make. I'm sure someone has posted a how to make these someplace.

Re: Vietcong sandals.
These are pretty awesome, and I have to wonder what the original owner would think of seeing them for sale for $250.00.
I've always wanted to make a pair myself, but I have flat feet, and I'm sure that prolonged wear would put me in some serious pain.
I can definitely see the appeal, though. In a really wet climate, they would be probably keep your feet cooler and dryer than USGI wool socks and jungle boots.
There are a ton of how-to videos available, with variable fit and finish results. Plus, every country seems to be lining up to say they invented them first...really interesting. I think this would be an awesome PAW skill set to have.

I imagine that making a pair of those out of steel-belted radials would be tough going.

These are a much better price, about as authentic as they get and probably don't belong to a dead guy.

Re: Vietcong sandals.
When I was kid spending summers in Honduras the campesinos would make similar sandals from car tires but used cordage or leather straps instead of inner tubes. They don't do it anymore because steel belted radials are nearly impossible to cut (as mentioned earlier) with a machete and the availability of cheap shoes from Asia.

Aren't trailer tires non steel belted ? On a tangent. When this thread started I immediately thought of huaraches sandals (which I had a pair I bought in TJ back in the seventies ). Upon searching for a site that had instructions on how to build a pair I only found instructions to build sandals using car mats.

Just as a point of historical reference . About the time that V C soldier was wearing those sandals , deep in the middle of the hell called the Vietnam war. I was wearing these...
