I can't tell- but it is a full-lug revolver with real sights......the Python is the only one like it I can think of that we've seen on the show so far......

In this situation I would want everyone to be able to hold up their end. Being wise old Grandpa, ever ready with advice would be less useful to me than a Daryl, Shane, Andrea, or a Rick.
I do agree with you, in a sense. He's not a guy you put in charge, or the guy you go on foraging runs with. But if we we're in the Mob together, he'd definitely be my choice for Consigliere

Don't mind me, I'm still bitter about LOST.

Dale's whole self-righteous moral busybody routine drives me up the freakin wall. He's often right but dammit, you don't get to hide my gun and you don't get to tell me if and when I can eat a bullet to escape this nightmare.

I think there are some similarities between Dale and Shane as far the whole "this is right for you because its right for me" approach.

I wouldn't get hung up on the Colt - after all didn't Rick hand it to Otis right before that little trip he took with Shane? Consistency with firearms ain't one of the series strong points.

But didn't Shane snatch it back from Otis when they were tussling. I figured that's how Rick got it back.

Omg I miss this wonderful website :D :D OK back on topic. Did anybody else notice that in the new episode rick grew a set of balls? I did not expect him to be even the slightest bit hostile to the two guys in the bar. When they walked in I was like oh great new shady characters that ricks gonna give a bunch of the groups crap too......then he shot them in the face

You know... now that you mention it, you're right! There WAS a slight change in his character!

Here's my fearless prediction: Colt is freakin' creaming their pants right now. In that one bar scene, Andrew Lincoln in The Walking Dead has done for the Colt Python what a young Mel Gibson in Lethal Weapon did for the Beretta 92. I confess: I've never had much of an interest in revolvers until now. But now I'm frickin' jonesing for a Rick Grimes Hand Cannon!

Wasn't shown - and I just stumbled across one of the walking dead forums where this is a big conversation point. They pose an excellent question: If Rick gave Otis his pistol and Otis covered Shanes escape according to Shane:

"We were about done. Almost out of ammo, we were down to pistols by then. I was limpin', it was bad. Ankle all swollen up. "We gotta save the boy." See, that's what he said. He gave me his back pack, he shoved me ahead. Run, he said. He said, I, I'll take the rear, I'll cover you. Then when I looked back... If not for Otis, I'dve never made it out alive... and that goes for Carl, too. It was Otis. He saved us both. If any death ever had meaning, it was his."

then how did Shane get the pistol back to give to Rick? Of course this could be the tell that puts Shane to light, huh?

Yeah, I've read those posts also.

It very well could be that Dale and/or Rick will put 2-&-2 together and realize that Shane's story about how Otis met his end is complete B.S.

Edit: Look at about 0:42 and you can see Shane rip the Python out of Otis' hand and then he hits him with it a couple of times:

Yup, it's clearly there. I'm thinking this is going to be the point that very well may be what outs Shane. Think about it: Who was there when Rick gave Otis the Python? IIRC Rick, Shane, Herschel, and Otis. Shane knows, Otis is dead, Rick doesn't seem to know, and this very well could have been what Herschel meant when he was talking to Dale in the barn. This may have been what confirmed Dale's suspicions and gave him his "I know what kind of man you are" perspective, eh?

*Yawn*, S2.5 is shaping up with more of the same old same old. Same farm, same little one street town, same ham fisted overdramatized plot twists that are more like plot speed bumps, hell they even have another bedridden character.

Rick -- Well I've said it more than once, in a world without rule of law the biggest threat you'll run into is a cop. Walk into a bar for a drink, get a bullet in your head. Shane is going to regret not popping Rick and Dale back at the quarry.

Lori -- Seriously, really? How bad do you need a map on a straight country road leading to a one street town?
Ham, meet fist. Also I did find it interesting that when everybody else is beotching about the heat, after she's been running around in the same wifebeater tee for half a season, NOW she puts a coat on before driving to town for some unknown reason. Bleh, only way this can be any way redeeming is if she crashed into a whole nest of walkers and the first 90 seconds of the next episode is nothing but Lori providing uterus taffy. Not THAT would be an "OMFG WTF!!!" moment.

HBO would do it on Game Of Thrones.

Dale -- Backstory? Gah, captain of his high school debating team, president of his retirement trailerpark HOA, always got passed over his whole life for the jock bullies who kicked sand in his face and now he's on an envious payback is a bitch mission against Shane. Bad ass? He hasn't flipped the safety off that Ruger in two seasons, even when the camp was being overrun. Not. One. Walker. Think from now on I'll just refer to Dale as NOW. Y'all need to learn the difference between "trustworthy" & "non-threatening".

This series is seriously losing me, it could be so many times better if it actually had, i dunno, a coherent plotline. How I see it panning out, none of the core group will be touched, some bad show down afterthought story with the "Philly Group", Shane gets voted off the island but won't be killed, Lori pouts a bit more, Dale pouts a bit harder, Philly Group burns the farm down and wipes out Herschel & the Farm Team. Except for Maggie, that gives her an excuse to move on and help fix the brokeass Winnebago every 1.5 episodes in S3.
I did not slap you in the face, I high fived your head and your hands did not get in the way.

There's a few more, but this one is kinda cool...http://visually.visually.netdna-cdn.com ... 533f25.jpg

By the way, Rick has killed over half of all the walkers in season 1... remains to be seen what kinda tally they come up with, but It would seem that on the killing the non dead, Rick leads Shane, two to one...

I'll have to watch it again but it looked to me like Rick got him right in the forehead on the first shot. I could be wrong though. It was a quick scene and I was watching it on my 7 inch tablet.

OK so perhaps we need to start a kill count?

We can list all the characters names and track their kills every episode. :D

Dale does what he can, but at the end of the day I'm not picking him for my dodge ball team.

If we were settled in on the farm or other permanent place I can see his value for administration. Until that time comes, I would want some pipe hitters.

On another note, the ever so pious Herschel was seriously getting on my nerves. But he has now had an epiphany (barn scene) and now a re- purposing (bar scene).

I think Rick got to him with the bit about it's not about us, or hope, it's about the people who count on us.

I think he will turn into an old badass, but in the end get killed.

I wish they would give Daryl more development. He is my favorite and the one I would want with me. Not emotional, great at survival and killing walkers, and seems to be a good guy at heart (last episode he was hurting over the kid being killed and no one even cared). Despite his crappy start, he is the one I would try to keep around.

But, this is what keeps you watching-you WANT to see him develop, and they will continue to play it out. They flesh out each character, a little at a time...it keeps viewers coming back. Everyone has their favorites, and they will develop each on their own. Daryl is a difficult one-se1 he was sort of a bad guy, then he showed heart. se 2.1 he got more of a concerned and protective personality. Then, we saw his brother harassing him in his hallucinations. Will that change his thinking again, back to a more Daryl-centric way of life? Who knows...there is a lot of character development going on. One thing I particularly enjoy is that the characters are dynamic-they arent tied into one set of emotions. They continue to develop. The writing is great in this respect-it keeps us cheering for different people, for different reasons. Se1, I liked Lori-this season, I hope she gets written off the show. But, its entirely possible that she could turn around again, and I could like her. Either way, I will continue to watch. Every show needs antagonists!!!

Outstanding idea, Paladin. I suggest we add a second and third column to everyone's name. Column two will be for kills of people (something I suspect we're going to see a lot more of) and Column three for boneheaded moves[edit: facepalms thx Seer]. Adding to that third column will require a consensus from participants to this, the increasingly inaccurately titled "Walking Dead" New Cable Series thread.

I'll start and edit this post based on people's input because I'm sure I don't have this exactly right.

Season One Episode 1: Days Gone By

Rick
Walker kills:
Crawler lady in the park
Walker outside of Morgan&Duane's house (using baseball bat and face shield)
Former fellow police officer Leon
Teddybear girl while looking for gas
4 walkers underneath M1 tank (need help with exact count)
One walker inside of M1 tank

People Kills
1 (credit for 1 of 3 shooters in car chase)

Facepalms
I'm saying zero, the guy was in shock and didn't understand what had happened. But I'm persuadable.

Totals: 9, 1, 0

Shane
Walker Kills
0

People Kills
1 (credit for 1/3 shooters in the car chase)

Facepalms
0 (his decisions about leaving Rick and keeping the group camped out outside of Atlanta don't get revealed until the next episode, although I'd vote both of those were initially reasonable choices given the info he had to go on).

Totals: 0, 1, 0

Morgan
Walker Kills
Walker lumbering towards Rick outside his house
Need help here: maybe half a dozen with scoped rifle?

People kills
0

Facepalms
0

Totals: 7, 0, 0

Duane
Walker Kills
0

People Kills
0

Facepalms
1 (clubbing Rick with a shovel)

Totals: 0, 0, 1

Episode totals: 16, 2, 1
