Age Of The Living Dead (Amazon series)

Post by RickOShea » Tue Oct 29, 2019 11:24 pm

Woohoo, a new zombie series. .....no, wait. Not zombies....gotdayum vampires. :ooh:

A strange infection breaks out on the U.S. east coast. Vampires are killing or turning large numbers of people. The populace is urged to flee westward as gub'mint and society breaks down. Ten years later there is an uneasy truce. The vampires control everything east of the Mississippi. The humans are taking refuge west of the Rockies. The middle of the country is an unoccupied buffer zone. The truce is maintained only because the human's give a weekly tribute of blood to the vamps. The rest of the world has somehow managed to quarantine the Lower 48 states, including jamming any and all communications. Both sides grow tired of the status quo, and both sides are planning to end things once and for all.

A series on Amazon Prime. Kinda cheap. Lots of overacting from the vampires, and underacting from the humans....so I guess it balances out.

 So 150 million-ish vampires given a tribute of what, 150 million-ish gallons of blood per month, donated by 150 million humans? Yes, ok, suspension of disbelief, but are there any rebellious teenage girls, or preteen boys with inhalers in it? 'Cause that would be a deal breaker. [so old and overdone]

Also are they spelling it vampires or vampyres? That also makes a difference in the quality of bloodsuckers. You know like Ragers vs Walkers vs Mutants, etc.

Wow. Nope.

Thanks for the warning on the acting. I thought I was going to have to reach through the screen and choke some talent out of the cast. After two episodes I am certain they spent the $3 million dollars on sets, some ok camera work and bad CGI. Certainly not on writing, directing, acting, scripting or anything related to developing a plot. Why do the vamps have self healing clothes that seal up bullet holes? The world will never know.

Assuming I could buy off on the idea of Mexico, UK and Canada ganging up on the US and somehow defeating the US Navy (Which is more powerful than the total militaries of all the other combined all by itself), setting up a blockade, building a wall around the US in two days (it actually said two days lol) and all the other military miracles they pulled off... all while the world economy is in shambles from the replacement of the dollar with the Euro... ah hell the list goes on and on and on... So I had great trouble with buy in within the first minute. This is why a lot of PAW movies simply avoid talking about what led to the great fall. Unless someone is a really great writer the more intricate story created the less believable it is.

Apart from that the writing is terrible, the acting wooden enough that some of the actors actually ARE mannequins (You can see them in a few obvious shots with lots of people in the areas).

I made it through two. Going to pass on the rest.
You go 'round and around it
You go over and under
I go through

When there are so many great stories out there (I'm thinking of "One Second After" and "World War Z") I cannot understand why they make such terrible and silly shows. Thank you for the warning -I will avoid this one.
I am not a 'gray man'. I am a brown man, coyote brown. With FDE highlights, of course.

I actually enjoyed the first couple seasons. It is sad when writers fall blindly in love with their characters.

It did work for the first few seasons. The early seasons of TWD were some of the best TV I have seen.

Well , maybe two seasons. Then you realized, Rick was a tool. The entire group took the wrong way more often than a porn star . And all it really took to evade the zombies was a slow trot. . But otherwise.. riveting

And every once in a while, closing doors and gates behind you after you went thru them .

I'll back you up on that. I really enjoyed the first few seasons of TWD. At the time it was fresh and edgy and I personally didn't get too hung up on realism/common sense issues because it was such a hoot to have a high quality zombie series to watch.

Back to "Age of The Living Dead": it kind of sounds like an even more disappointing version of Fox's adaptation of "The Passage", a failed TV show that ruined an amazing trilogy of novels.

It was definitely wasted potential. I enjoyed the movie Daybreakers much more. If you want to watch a good Vamp vs People movie that is a little better, but the people are in short supply.
