The funny thing is they still sell that knife. The brand has changed, but I've seen pretty much the same commercial on late night TV. I think it's now called the "Rocky Mountain" knife instead of the "Survivor".

There's a store a few blocks from my house that has a whole aisle full of "As Seen on TV" products and that knife is one of them.

ETA: Found the new commercial. It's the same damn knife, but with an updated commercial.

Ohhhhh Lordy. The new video shows them having the nerve to BATON wood with that knife! Haters gonna' hate on it, LOL.

LOL. I had both the black & camo version back when I was a kid (circa '85).

ETA: Looks like the price has only gone up $5 in the last 30+ years....that's a steal right there.Image

I get the feeling someone found a bunch of the old knives packed away in some dark warehouse and went "Oh neat. I bet we can sell these because survival stuff is trendy again."

All they did was update the sheath, add a fire starter and a paracord bracelet and jack up the price by 5 bucks. I'm surprised they didn't just use the old commercial but with the new company info at the end.

"The best selling knives of it's kind ever sold by us"

And STILL only $10! (if you buy it from Turkey Creek)

Growing up, we had this knife on our boat. It was referred to as our "Rambo" knife. It served its duty well. Never rusted nor broke. It was used for cutting lines and other light duty stuff. No survival.

My brother also has this exact knife and I have an exact clone of Rambo's knife in First Blood. Both were the catalog specials purchased by our grandfather at the surplus store. They took a beating as kids playing in the woods.

So basically, we had 2 of these, and another that was similar. All three served us well. Might not be a KaBar, but for $10, it's sure to impress them city folks around the campfire

I still have two of those knives. I used to keep them in my camping gear cause they were great for opening cans of beans when you forgot the can opener again. I'm pretty sure one of them still has all the survival stuff from the handle. Can't really tell for sure but the free sportsman's knife in the original video looks like the knife that my father in law bought at a swap meat back in the nineties He liked them so much, and they were a buck each so he bought twenty of them. All his kids, our kids and their kids too have one of those knives. It's EDC( somewhere in their purse) for my wife and daughters. Holds an edge amazingly well and is sharp. Still have two or three still in the box .

I remember wanting one of those very badly when I saw that commercial. When I was about 25 or so I found one at a garage sale. I was pretty disappointed with the build quality. My inner 12 year old felt like he'd been kicked in the yambag.

Oh, man, those videos have me desperately missing cable and late night infomercials! I think one of the best parts of the more recent video is the repeated dropping of the letter 'g' at the end of almost all their present progressive words, as if emphatically saying huntin' instead of hunting will sell more product...that and I kind of love the guy randomly attaching it to a giant stick to cut down an overhead tree limb he is standing right under...because that can't go wrong at all  That being said, my inner 12 year old still thinks it seems pretty cool :D
