One of the questions I had about the series is that they never adequately explained the EMP. Who was responsible for it? The series later establishes that the outgoing missiles in those episodes were aimed at Iran and North Korea, and now 10 years later North Korea might have the capability for a high-altitude nuclear detonation over Kansas. We know for sure Iran doesn't.

I don't believe there was an EMP in Jericho, yes there was some things knocked out from the nukes, but that's more to do with infrastructure being taken down than things being taken down by EMP. They get into who did it in the second season.

After the second attack a lot of stuff quit working and they said it was EMP. It was never really explained but a lot of vehicles disappeared from the set.

Huh, I totally missed that.

It happened at the end of Episode 5 and the beginning of episode 6. Right after the Missiles are launched an EMP explodes in the sky and knocks out the power. Gray Anderson calls it a "heck of a pulse" in episode 7.

Spoiler Alert!

Don't read this if you want the surprise in Jericho unspoiled. Okay? Right...

"Designated Survivor", anyone? When I saw the reveal in Designated Survivor, the first thing I thought was Jericho Syndrome. It's the damned Jericho show all over again. Or Seven Days in May, or or or. In the imagination of Hollywood, right wing American militarists are always lurking in the shadows, ready to seize power under the cloak of chaos the militarists create themselves. Ugh.

America nuked itself? Really? Ugh.

Actually ........

nation number of above ground detonations years total yield
United States 216 1945-1962 153.8 mt
