PARA ORDNANCE SF45-A

Post by jeremy1391 » Thu Sep 29, 2011 9:13 pm

Ok so I have what appears to be a golden opportunity. A buddy of mine has this pistol
Image

It's a para hi cap deployment pistol with my brigade logo engraved on it with tritium night sights, 5 mags, match barrel trigger and hammer, case lock and letter of authenticity for this being part of my brigades pistol run. He's asking $650... Para says it's a package worth $1600. Should I get it?

The dozen or so other people I've talked to said that their pistols ran fine but I guess I'm afraid of all the Internet hype about how a para will rape your dog and kill your kids and only communist transvestites use a para, does anyone here run a hi cap para and what are your thoughts on it?

P.S. I will also get to test fire it before I purchase.

The first gun I bought was a Para LDA 14-45, before I knew anything about guns. 10 years later, I can't say too many bad things about it. The majority of my malfunctions are mag related and it has the occasional hiccup with hollow points. I accept this because even though I've had it 10 years or so, it's a Canadian model--nothing against Kanucks; but, I bought it used and it's serial # dates it do the 90's. All things aside, after all these years, my only 1911 style pistol (after numerous other name brand 1911s) is a Para 14-45. It's a good gun; I know this because I want to sell it, but, it's Omega_woman's favorite! I'm still trying to sell her on Glocks :(

I love mine ;) BUY IT! Bought mine for $600 and have no regrets.

EDIT: This is a deployment gun that is offered by Para for $750 to .mil peeps in 50 unit minimum orders.

Para works with you to do anything they can to fix problems. I know, I had a FTE problem, and four weeks later, they sent it back to me pristine and didn't charge me a dime. Here's the thread about my experience:

http://zombiehunters.org/forum/viewtopi ... 10&t=79702

There also was a thread not too long ago about Para's rep. Some people hate them with a burning passion, like the Glock/1911 debate. However, if you ask actual owners who chimed in on the thread, they all had wonderful experiences. Now, while reading reviews is great to get general info... I say take advantage of the test firing. Let us know how you like it.

The only times I've shot Paras I've been happy with them, but I never ran them hard.

I'd definitely say it's worth $600 in good shape though.

Shot it today and it ran great! Had one malfunction using reloaded hollow points that have been in my garage for a few years..... We ran about 350 rounds through it, slow and rapid fire. Now we are negotiating price. Might be doing 300 a month for 2 months. Let's just hope his household six agrees to the deal.

I really wish I'd have bought one when I heard about them doing a run of them... *sigh*
But when we get back from this one, hopefully they do another.

My Brigade did a Para-Ord pistol. I wish like hell I'd gotten it, and it was $900 (but it did come with an obscene amount of mags...)

I'm another Para 1911 owner (they used to be a Canadian company!) I was worried about buying one from the internet hate, but mine has been flawless. I don't run it hard though. At your price point, it's pure win.

I had a P14-45, ran it hard, it choked, I sold it. I hope you have better luck with yours than I did :(

Accurate as a turd.

Don't buy it.

I have one. I advise to buy it, or the glock if that was offered too (sometime they are). However, as for the Para... I went with the LDA trigger. Kinda regret it. If you do buy the para, get the SA version. I realize that most people didn't get the LDA version so maybe down the line the rarity will help with resale, but I doubt it greatly. The pistol is accurate enough and reliable enough, but the LDA trigger doesn't have as positive of a reset as I like. The finish also seems to come off much easier than I expected. However, for the money it's a great buy. the closest thing to it is a para Tac-45 and that thing is like 1400 dollars.

My former business partner had one, it ran fine except for one glaring problem, it would never fire the last round or two in the magazine. New mags from para never fixed the problem, I hope its not the person I know that your buying it from. Other Paras ive fired dont seem to have this problem, this one did.

I have transferred lots of those guns for local SF guys. They all love them. I carry a P14R LDA and it is a beautiful and wonderful shooting gun. As for how do they hold up? Try this:

I would love to pick one up in that price range, just so I can shoot life sucking space bugs and be as cool as this guy:
