Anyone Have a Walther PPX M1?

Post by my pies are piff » Thu Jun 06, 2013 6:29 pm

So this gun shop near me is having a sale and they're selling them for $349 new. I'm really tempted to go pick one up. Someone talk me into or out of doing it.

Go hold it, fingerbang it, see how it feels. Florida gun exchange is pretty decent.

I prefer East Orange Shooting sports for stuff I can't get myself, like suppressors and whatnot.

What's different about it, other than the grip? To be honest it sorta looks like a Walther-Hipoint hybrid.

I think East Orange has the best ranges in the city and the prices are decent, but a lot of times they don't really have a good selection in stock. They are helping me out with finding a lawyer for a NFA Trust though.

Which shop in Orlando is selling them for that price?

It was a weekend blowout at Florida Gun Exchange, which is a bit east of Orlando.

I think the sale is going on til the end of the month so the prices should still be good as long as the stock is there. I'd give them a call and check it out.

I've had the P99 in .40 since 2000. I really like the ergonomics of it. I have an airsoft version as well, which I used for indoor training. Things have changed since then and I've been thinking of trading it in for a Glock.

As for the PPX, it looks like they've gone back to the drawing board with some of the features. I would be interested in a report on it as well.

I was actually going to check this deal out, but than I purchased a used USP for from Palmetto State Armory when it was on sale, so probably a no go unless this week goes very well at work.

looks like the p99. I like that pistol. Never owned one but liked shooting one. Also the P99 was available in .45

They don't feel like a P99, at least to me. They are also hammer fired if that matters to you.

Look like a great overall pistol though, and Mid $300s is a great price point.

My P99 is striker fired. I'm not sure if they changed that over the years. (For a while, Walther and Smith & Wesson did a combo pistol, which I can't remember the name of. Maybe S&W 99 or something. Walther did the frame. S&W did the slide.) The P22s I've fired have had hammers. My P99 is also DA/SA.

I love the ergonomics of the P99. I was set to buy a USP until I wrapped my hands around the P99. My small elfin hands that is.

Tag. LGS has one on the shelf got me thinking. Google says they're DAO iirc. Big and ugly enough to be "cute". Maybe when I get my bonus. :D

Not so much big as bulky, or blocky. The odd looking grip fit my tiny hands nicely.

Thanks for the input guys. I left you hanging, but I ultimately decided against it. I already have too many handguns that I don't shoot enough. I spent the money that I would have on the PPX on some 223 ammo. I'll put some away for some NFA items that I'm looking to get in the future too.

Probably a good plan. I've only got an old Lorcin 9mm and a cheapo AR pistol for handguns, so I'm thinking a 9mm pistol with a rail and modern safety/mag release might be a wise investment. Or at least not a total misappropriation of funds.

For anyone interested in Walther's pistols- They are awesome, incredibly accurate and super ergonomic in my opinion. I have the PPQ M2, and love it. Its incredibly comfortable and fits smaller hands. The only issue is non-existant after market mags- so I suspect the PPX will suffer from a similar drought, at least for now.

Finally got it to the range, I think it was a good purchase. Feeds hollowpoints and fmj no problem, comfortable grip, accurate, high quality feel. Hoping for the ammo shortage to ease so I can get some more "fun time" at the range. :)

I've held one before, but it just doesn't grab me like the PPQ and P99 does.

I had been looking at HiPoints, I like the bulky look of their 45, but wanted a 9. Found a blocky looking 9mm from a reputable manufacturer for a reasonable price, couldn't pass it up. If you're not into blocky pistols, this one prolly won't be attractive to you, but the quality seems to be there if you're willing to give it a try.
