2 Zombie Book Recommendations

Post by appleseed » Wed Sep 02, 2015 7:03 pm

There are two books/authors I want to recommend, both of which are infection/28 Days Later type stories instead of the traditional Romero-style zombies.

The first is a new series called the Seven Cities Saga by Jay Brenham. There are two books in the series so far and they're pretty unique as far as zombie fiction goes. The characters aren't "preppers" with ready-to-go stockpiles. Even though I consider myself a prepper, I thought it was refreshing to read about characters who don't start the apocalypse as ex-Special Forces with a stockpile of weaponry and supplies. It's about pretty normal people who acquire survival skills as they go along. It's a page-turner and a great read. The first in the series is free for prime members (0.99 cents if you aren't).

The second is The Remaining series by D.J. Molles. It's a pretty exciting survival story set in an infected apocalypse. I've read all of the books in the series except the last one, which I haven't gotten around to yet. The author was originally self-published and then got picked up by a traditional publisher. The main character in this book is the opposite from the characters in the Seven Cities Saga. He's a SF soldier in a prepared bunker with a ton of supplies. But it's still a page-turner and a great read. The Remaining isn't free for prime members but the first in the series and is a reasonable 4.99 for kindle.

Not a zombie book but in the same vein, I found this and the rest of the series a lot of fun.
