Extending the sight radius of the ak is not a bad idea. Slapping a rear sight on a wobbly dust cover- not so much..

Actually, my first thought was of a Yugoslavian M76 with wierdo furniture and handguards removed, then I looked a little closer and saw the Saiga .308 magazine.

Just because it was only a Saiga doesn't make it OK. :(

From the Gunbroker ad:
"this saiga has a nos 1919 308 barrel in it. it also has custom cnc gas block sight combo and rear gas tube mount. free shipping."

I ask you: of what good is a custom gas block sight combo if there is no rear sight?

Again, my major complaint is how light the receiver is for all that metal+wood.

Consider:

A complete Saiga .308 rifle weighs about 8lbs.

A 1919A4 bbl weighs 7.4lbs

That Valmet stock +grip is at least 2lbs

That PSOP is close to 2lbs

This means that a thin, stamped receiver that weighs MAYBE 6lbs has 12+lbs of shit hanging off of it when you put a mag in it.

except it's installed on the dust cover which is a horrible place for a sight. It's not stable nor solid enough for a sight. Plus, every time you clean it, it will need to be re-zeroed.
Not really..... http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/c ... /Galil.jpg
http://www.valmetweapons.com/Valmet_Rifles.html

Wish I had a valmet but don't, do have several clones for the Galil and it holds fine. None of the dust covers are easy to take off or put on, very snug and tight.

Now on some sloppy AK builds that might be true. but if you got a good tight fit, they are OK.

Given the color of the vehicle door in the background and the hodgepodge nature of the rifle I am going to guess that it is from Iraq.

After looking at this picture for several days, I've finally made up my mind and reached a verdict.

It needs a water jacket.

I know and have dealt with the builder. This guy does some seriously outstanding builds and machine work, and is the only source for decently priced and quality US made HK and Cetme cages, trigger groups, and adjustable triggers. He's put together M53s and god knows what else. If you want to see more examples take a look at the military firearms forum (http://www.militaryfirearm.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;)

Has anyone ever heard of a machine gun that top-feeds, like a Bren, from an AK mag?

Click on the image in the fourth row, fourth column:

http://www.walshgallery.com/works-5/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

These are photographs taken by Gao Lei in Palestine; they're "art" but they are documentary photographs, not (AFAIK) staged, other than the artist saying, "Hey guys, can I take your picture?"

It looks like maybe a PKM with an AK mag just stuck in the feed chute for the pic? Nah, too small to be a PKM and the stock's wrong. But I'm pretty sure that's the feed cover flipped forward, meaning it is (or was) a belt-fed weapon. So it's either been converted to be fed from an AK mag, or it's just stuck there for the picture (the fighters had no ammo for it but wanted to look "tough"?), or else I'm wrong and it's a gun I've never heard of.
