Which Shotgun, Rifle and Four Wheel Drive?

You have decided that The preacher man says it’s the end of time and the Mississippi River she’s a goin’ dry the interest is up and the Stock Markets down so you are headed for the country (or you are already there).

We already know you will have an old 45 for a pistol but what about the truck, rifle and shotgun?
You go 'round and around it

My '97 Dakota, Mossberg 500, JRA M14, and a Ciener .22lr conversion kit for all of them, 'cause that's the ZS way.

Is this for us to choose from what we already have or a dream setup? If I had a truck in this scenario I'd probably bring more than that, or at least a rifle for everyone else riding 'shotgun'.

Again if no EMP, '96 F250 powerstroke, Remington 1100 w/Choat shoulderstock/pistolgrip, 8 round tube extension and red dot, ant one of more than 20 rifles, and either my Suomi M31 or Ppsh 41. And my TNW ASR with all conversions. The springs of the F250 have been beefed up to handle the load of ammo.

4wd, my Suburban is actually pretty good, though I'd really love a pickup.

Rifle, depends, but probably best to just grab my AR. If I'm in a longer term situation or in an area where the snowflakes still hold sway, my .44 levergun.

Shotgun, I have an old 67f pump and a single H&R 12ga, but if given my 'druthers, I'd probably go with a Mossie 500 with a short'ish barrel and long'ish mag tube.

Got a .45, and like it. So, I'm good there. :)

For a rifle I think my first choice, for survival and all that might come for an uncertain time into the future, would be a 7.62x51 Galil.

Image

Image

Second choice would be any of G3, FAL, M14, AKM, Mini 30, Galil, AR....mostly in the 30 cal family. Some stuff by the guy at Mason Dixon Tactical has made me think a 7.62x51 would be best for "who knows what" and a 30 cal in general would be more suitable for survival+fighting. Though the .22/5.5 cal family have been used to kill big critters too.

For shotguns and a "come what may" scenario I would go for the Mossberg 590A1.

Image

Though I keep hearing/reading from BTDT types that the Beretta 1301 is fantastically reliable and I suspect it would be a better choice in almost any situation.

Image

For a truck, we might have to stretch the definition...Unimog, anyone?

Image

Ooops! How did that get in there....who doesn't want a M35 as a daily commuter?

Image

And did you say a .45?

Image

OR....

My 04 Quad cab Ram 1500 w/factory off road package (3.92 gears, skid plates, limited slip, bilstein shocks), my beat up Mossberg 500 I received as a gift when I graduated the police academy, my AR with a cheap scope and a flash light I rattle canned into something that blends in to no known environments. I have my Rock Island.45 so I can meet the handgun requirement for a fo fibe.

'99 Jeep Wrangler TJ 4.0 Auto. Mossberg 590A1 Black Parkerized 12 GA 3-inch 18.5-inch 7Rd Ghost Ring. Polish AK47. Or my 10.5 inch barrel AR. That's what's in stock. Well everything except the Mossberg. At the top of my wishlist though.

If I could choose. Probably a larger 4x4 - maybe a Toyota. Those things never die. But Jeeps don't either. AT least their tractor engines don't. I'd still stick with the Mossberg Shotgun. Then an AR - some high end 11 inch barrel one.

And I wouldn't take a .45. I'd take a Glock 19.

My Winchester 1200 pump, My AR, and a 99-07 Chevy 4WD. Not exciting stuff, but stuff I can find parts for and know how to fix. I'm also pretty familiar with Chrysler Minivans! So I'm pretty much a Southern Single Soccer Mom's dream date.

But,.. I'd be willing to trade the the Winnie 1200 for a 870 or a Mossy 500,... or ammo and a tank of gas. I've never really been attached to a shotgun accept for the Rem 1100 I grew up with.

Old Blue, a 2001 Ram, is the only 4x4 truck I currently own, so I guess he'll do.

Shotty wise, probably the HD 870.

Definitely one of the AR's (5.56 + Zantra kit), but which one? I'll have to think about that.

Then I guess my 1943 Ithaca 1911A1. Not my first choice, but it is my "oldest" .45. :ooh:

Wow. Nice list. I like the Unimog. I watched a documentary where two guys tried to motorcycle across Russia. And they were saved by Unimogs more than once. Those things can go f-ing anywhere! Good choice. Puts my Jeep to shame. lol. Only thing about the Unimog is outside of EU you're gonna be hard pressed to find parts.

Love the Galil. But gonna have to disagree based on availability of parts. Your not gonna find one laying on the battlefield. But you might run across more than a few AR's or even AK's. To swap parts from. I know a lot of guys that carry copious extra parts with their rigs too. That's the only reason (that and ammo) why I chose the AR. Round is just to common and parts are to readily available. I have a plethora of AK parts. But ammo is still probematic in a total PAW. Just not nearly as much as 5.56. Maybe even .308. I'll have to find those production numbers again. Maybe even an AR10. But it's a lot of weight. Might as well carry an AK and hope for ammo. I think you'll have access to plenty of AK parts. But when the ammo runs out. AK is going to run out way before 5.56. Still I have both. So in the early stages depending on the environment I'm in the AK will be my starter rifle. Then onto the AR when the ammo runs out. That is if I can carry both in a vehicle or keep in a stash someplace.

Really nice list though. I've been lusting after that USMC shotgun for a while now! :)
