low price get back home guns.

Post by smokestack » Wed May 16, 2012 11:22 am

with recent topics on truck guns i have my own spin on it. mine will be a get back home gun since i may be in my jeep on the 4wheeler or on horseback. i dont travel too terribly far from my dig-in/home. others and my self have suggested truck guns that are on the pricey side...the rugers the AR's ,AK's and all the SIGS, KIMBERS and so on. i have some nice handguns and rifles that i dont want stolen or sitting in a evidence locker.so on my trips out i carry a GLOCK23 and the AR-7. both are easy to replace and are for the most part worry free. the AR stays assembled with ammo and cleaning supplies in the stock. so anyway in i hope in the unlikley event that i need to use a firearm to get my family and my self back home from a trip to town or just a outing of any sort i hope these two could handle the task. i will use my heavier hardware for hunting and defendinf the home front. what are you guys carrying as a low buck truck/get back home guns. keep it cheap

I dont keep anything in my truck anymore. If I 'm going on a trip I keep my SR9. I use to run my Mossberg 500 in my trunk back in the day. But then I hung out places I probably shouldnt have with people I shouldnt.

I finally had a chance to fire an AR7 the other weekend at a range (the guy was out there with his wife and daughter shooting on Mothers Day - I told him he was a lucky, lucky man :) )

It was one of the newer AR7's. I have to admit it's a very elegant design. I was having trouble holding it steady because the stock was so fat yet so light. Figure that's just a matter of getting used to. (The 13 year old girl however was a regular Annie Oakley with the Henry. Like, scary good.)

How much ammo can you store in the stock?

I don't keep anything stored in my vehicle. I think for most people their CCW is their "truck gun."

Like the AR-7 though. George C. Scott put it to pretty good use in "Rage!"

My truck gun is a Taurus 24/7 OSS DS in 9mm, 3 17 round mags, coupled with my daily carry of a S&W 360PD. The Smith is too expensive to leave in the truck, the Taurus resides there all the time.

And before you all pile on with "I'd never trust my life to a Taurus" comments, you should just know that you can all suck it!

Amazon has it on DVD and VHS. Netflix, sadly, doesn't.

The movie was probably catnip for survivalists and conspiracy theorists in '72. Like the first "Death Wish" movie, it's surprising how little gun porn was involved in a movie about a shooter. In the 80s and 90s, they'd have been given big sexy well hung guns, but in earlier movies it was just about the character, not the hardware.

I have a dedicated "Car gun". It's an older Charter Arms Bulldog .44 special. It was my first CCW, but it was so damn uncomfortable to shoot I replaced it with a Colt officers Lightweight in .45ACP.

I bought one of those flat Gun boxes and bolted it into my trunk so I don't run afoul of the local PD. It's not the best choice, but if it does actually get stolen, I will be more "meh" than :gonk: When I travel I also add an XD though...

Charter Arms, BTW, makes a fine weapon! That Bulldog .44 should have quite a bit of bark AND bite!

I EDC a G35, and an SGL21 comes along if I'm going far from home.

Sorry, all my cheap guns got sold off for better guns, but I might get a couple Saigas to convert myself. These could lived in the truck, but not because they are cheap(I've never felt in danger of having a gun stolen from my vehicle), but because then I'd have enough good guns to spread arround...

Shotgun. It is the only cheap ~$300 option that I would trust to leave in my vehicle and can bring a lot of firepower at targets under 50 yards. I used to under estimate the shotgun until I got adequate training by my department on how to effectively use them. While it is not my "go to war" gun, it is more then good enough to get me home.

I'm going to have to agree with that.A pump action shotgun is cheap, effective, extremely reliable, and, for me, easy to use.I have a Pardner I got for $199 that I love, and am considering making it my trunk gun.I keep it loaded with 00 buck but with slugs you can really stretch your effective range to likely engagement distances.

(No I do not have any delusions of my shotgun being a rifle.)

If you are looking for a pistol as your trunk gun I would choose either a used Smith or Ruger revolver or a KT PF-9 or a Bersa Thunder, all can be had for under $300 dollars, won't break the bank if you need to replace them, and would do the trick nicely.I feel like most people here CCW a pistol already so to me a "trunk gun" means a longarm. If you really want to save money a Mosin would work just fine, and you could keep a spam can of x54 in there too in case things get really hairy 8-)

Edit: Misread "truck" as "trunk".I guess what I said still applies though for people with cars.

I keep my .40cal Sub-2000 folded, tucked in the pocket behind the driver's seat, and two 22rd magazines in the glove compartment. I plan on getting rid of it soon since I also keep my FNP-40 w/ TLR-3 in my center console. It will be a very, VERY sad day when I do.

I'm still hoping for a sub2K in .45 that takes 1911 mags.

Ide buy that from you in a heart beat if it was the glock 9mm version.
Thats originally what I was looking for, but the local pawnshop only had that version. The last time they had a Sub-2000 of any type in stock, it left the place within an hour, so I jumped on it. That and I already owned a bunch of .40cal, so what the hell?

In my welding rig I keep a couple of bolt pistols, not cheap but fun. For the cheap guns got to go with my dirt truck - the thing that goes fishing, camping, etc... anywhere dirt roads take it. I keep an M44 Mosin with a full spam can in it. Not pretty or quiet but will stop any critter in Texas, 2 legs or more, and even has a nice roasting spit included. IMHO the carbine length Russian guns are the best bang for the buck when it comes truck guns, beaters, all around abuse. I wish I had bought a dozen more when they were so cheap... most of the ones i have now were 50-75 dollars, even my finnish converted remington was only ~150ish.

Another ZS member local to me owns a M/N M44 and he let me try it out a couple of weekends ago. To fire that thing, even once, is to want one. Your original purchase price is killing me!

"Carbine" length is deceptive however; it's still a long weapon. What a blast to shoot though. Even unloaded, it's more intimidating than a warning shot fired from most other guns, what with that nearly 2 foot "roasting spit" extended.

But it shoots straight, and im a dam good shoot with it. Plus its like 3+ pounds so I could club the hell out off a zombie.

Say what you want about hi point, but I like them. Down side, its a pain in the azz to clean.

My first handgun was a Hi-Point C9. I still have it. It now sits in my BOB. Perfect weapon? Far from it. But for the price, I don't feel bad about letting it sit in my BOB.
