Claim that a tiny minority of "super-gunowners" own an average of 17 firearms each. I'm wary of the label, as now the Narrative will be that anyone who has 17 guns should probably be the subject of "common sense gun control laws."

Being relatively new to the firearms world I've the 3% has been around for quite some time. Hell there are guys with 3% patches, much like the 1% patches worn by motorcycle "clubs". Not that I am comparing the 2, just drawing a similarity between the patches.

Wont say anymore politics than this: I don't think we need to worry about ANY kind of gun control measures, if nothing happened with the last admin. NOTHING is going to happen with this administration.

I haver an entire toolbox full of different types of wrenches, etc. Hell, I have one entire drawer full of just Phillips head and regular screw drivers.

The right tool for the job and all... I guess I’m a super tool owner and should be monitored closely.

My question is “How do we get firearms into the hands of the other 97%?”

Not getting political, but if someone calls me and asks how many guns I own the answer is always 0.

How does the old math problem go?

If JeeperCreeper owns a max total of 4 guns, and loses 100% of them in a boating accident, how many guns does he have?

37. He has 37 guns.

This stat was passed around last year around when the Southern Cali attack happened as it related to a public health project I was working on. I think last year the bloggers... errr I mean journalists... claimed that there were over 300 million guns in the USA with a population of 325 million.... but *gasp* not every person in the USA was a gun owner (insert shocked face). I think they claimed something like only 100 million people were gun owners and even a smaller group owned at least 20 guns. Basically saying the same thing as above.

If this is the same survey, I wanna say they asked like 500 people and got like 3 people to reply (heavy sarcasm). I would even question the 300 million guns in the USA as I believe it would be more than that... but then again, I don't wanna know.

There's been another stat out recently, the US has 4.4% of the world population but owns 47% of the world's firearms.

I really doubt the accuracy of the survey, despite the self laudatory statements as to its accuracy.

I have never stayed on the phone long enough to be asked such a question. That said if asked I would answer a "few". I suspect most fire arm owners would be less than candid because it is none of anyone's "f"ing business.

The desire of some "researcher" is not a valid reason to answer any question.

Do you think they will have a protest of the 3% like "Occupy Knob Creek"? I don't think that would go as well.

I simply decline to answer the question, or state "That's none of your business." I suspect most "super-gunowners" are similarly tight-lipped about divulging such information to strangers who call on the phone, possibly skewing the results.

It looks to me like "super-gunowners" are being set up to be vilified in the media, in preparation for proposing "common sense gun control measures" targeting those with "excessive" numbers of firearms or bulk ammunition.

Occupy Knob Creek ... that’s where the movement would end!

The claim has been thoroughly debunked by industry research. The ~300 million guns in the USA number comes from a study done in the 80's that only accounted for weapons produced to that point.

Funny, when I got back into guns as a hobby in about 2010, there were claims of the "300,000,000 guns". But every year since there's been record firearms sales... and guns don't expire. I guess it's like trying to figure out how many TVs are in America: manufacturer data and sales can only take you so far.

On a side note, the managers/administrators at my old job (about 20 people in a medical setting) were playing an ice breaker game similar to "never have I ever", where one of the questions was about owning a gun. I guess every person but 1 owned a gun. So yeah, maybe there are some super gun owners, but there are those people who bought a revolver in the 80's and it's sitting in a drawer and you'd never expect it from them.
