You might look at a youth model Escort 20 gauge semi-auto. Gunbroker has em for 300 and change brand spanking new. Between the semi auto action and low recoil shells most anyone should be able to use it.

Rossi. You can even get the matched pair (.410 and .22LR) for $200 at Wally World.

Snake shot in your 357 will do nicely. I've killed snakes with it before. 22 mag snake shot does ok too. 22 lr is a 50/50 deal in my opinion. But 357 does the job. I'd say 10-15 ft might have been my longest shot. I killed a big water moccasin once. Walked up to about 6 ft and popped it. Our family pond feed from a swampy areas. We get a lot of snakes. I don't think you have to worry to much about distance with the snakes. You'll either be on top of them or you'll be able to walk up and TCBϟ . Oh,.. and we've tested 40 and 9mm snake shot in a Beretta 96 and 92. It cycled with no issue.

I read a Steve Rinella story where he and his buddies were hunting ptarmigan with a 44 mag and snake shot. I always thought that was cool.

We have a cheap Stevens bolt action 410 here on the farm. It's taken more fox, rabbit and bird than anything else. Very handy. I paid $80 for it.
410 loads for critters? Bird shot for small critters, but I keep it loaded with 00 buck. Extremely right patterns even with cylinder bore, as the pellets are stacked on top of one another and not next to each other.

I thought a pocket 9 or shorty AR with a Ciener .22LR conversion and 60gr Aguila subsonic rounds was the answer to every question...shotgun, pistol, car, investments, crops...everything.

Now I'm confused...

Damn it Zantra, either get some new material or at least stay consistent.

If you have a break action shotgun now why not get a shotgun insert adapter? They cost generally 40-60 bucks. They really work well. I use a 4.10 adapter for my Baikal 12 ga single shot for squirrel hunting. The nice thing is because the gun was meant to absorb full power 12 ga shells the stock is heavier and the little 4.10 feels like a 22.

I would have no problem with something like that if the insert was long enough to give some acceleration to the shot. That is my main worry with a lot of adapters. I am afraid they are too short. But I think the right ones are a great idea.

They do make longer adapters, even rifled long adapters if you choose. I have even seen a few that were longer than the original shotgun barrel.
