Dragon Man: the best-armed man in America

Post by absinthe beginner » Mon Jun 26, 2017 7:02 pm

3,000 guns seems excessive, but who am I to judge?

https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/3883930/m ... rado-guns/

IN a country where it is believed there are two guns for every resident – one pistol-packing American is doing his bit to bump up the averages.

Mel Bernstein – known as the Dragon Man – has earned the title the ‘most armed man in the US’ and has a frightening 3,000 weapons in his collection – and that doesn’t include the tanks.

Somehow I don't think the swords should be included in the 3,000 total. Is this like the guy version of a crazy cat lady :awesome:

I read an article about him a while back when a viral video of a tour through his collection was hitting the internet. It did not paint him in a good light.

Basically, he ruined the relationship between his wife and daughters chasing fame, then killed his wife doing smoke bombs for Discovery channel, then later only talked about how amazing the show would have been had she not died.

So I dunno. His collection is awesome if you watch the video, but I've read a lot of positive and negative about this guy's attitude and business.

He appeared to me to have some serious Asperger's so I would call all that behavior normal for him.

His specialty happens to be guns so he would fit right in here at ZS.

His ranges are second to none in the area, most of the state really.

Not that I like to diagnose people via the internet, but I'd say he appeared to have more a narcissistic personality disorder than anything... talked about himself a lot and made a lot of excuses and rationale for his actions. Plus, if you look at reviews of his "compound" there is a lot of negative and they all show the same trend.

Regardless, if I were out there, I'd def stop by and find out for myself. His stuff is awesome

I did not see him on TV.

I used to go to his place to shoot/ shop when I was stationed at Ft. Carson 20 years ago. He is a weirdo but knows his stuff on guns.

Who isn't weird? I don't know the guy, but his hobby and business involving guns just makes him a target for the antigun crowd. Take away the guns and he is likely no different than your neighbor having marital problems and social quirks. We have a whole generation (Gen X) that is Narcissistic and they don't even understand the term, but they use it as labeling weapon all the time. Just my opinion. The guy may be a jackass, bad husband, crappy father...yet we stereotype him not because of those common traits for many American men, but because he has a large collection, hobby, and business involving firearms. Meh...click bait for the antigun crowd.

That would be nice if he were one of my neighbors, noisy but convenient.

He is missing 65 firearms after a burglary. However, I think he still a contender for the winner of the most guns contest.

http://www.denverpost.com/2017/08/28/bu ... cky-alive/
Four thieves smashed their way into the Dragonman gun store and shooting range in Colorado Springs and stole 65 guns, and the shop’s owner said Monday they’re lucky he wasn’t there at the time.

“There’s a lot of idiots out there,” said Mel “Dragon Man” Bernstein, owner of a gun museum, the Dragonman gun store and shooting range in Colorado Springs that was burglarized Sunday night. “I’m the most armed man in America. I have over 200 machine guns in my name. If I had been there they would have gotten shot in the head.”

He wasn't there because they made sure he was not there. He might want to rethink his security plan of moronic intimidation. The threat of force only works on a professional if the defender is able to act on that force, he couldn't. These guys were pros.

I've met Dragon Man multiple times, and grew up about thirty minutes from his range. He's a very nice guy. A bit reserved, but not unusually so. He has a gun store at his range, and a military museum that includes everything from soldier playing cards to tanks. He definitely enjoys his guns, but he's far from a "gun nut." His range is very safe, as are his paintball fields. His wife was also a really, genuinely sweet woman.
