Springfield Saint?

Post by FreuderLocks » Thu Sep 22, 2016 8:14 am

I got the email, still no idea. I think it's a bra, but I could be wrong. Rumor is it may be a rifle or a revolver...any one have any info? There was nothing at SHOT show about it.

Interesting. It doesn't seem like a new firearm, or at least that's how the wording seems.

I agree, it's like a product or holster of some sort.

"defend your legacy" and "saint"... maybe it's a bullet proof chastity belt to protect the family jewels and keep you celibate!!!!

Could be, but knowing Springfield it'll come with a bunch of extra parts that'll just end up staying in the box like the gear that comes with the XD guns.

I don't like firearm names like "Saint" or "Governor" or "Honor Guard".

Then again I also don't like letters and numbers that are trying to be clever (P3AT) or just try to make the firearm sound cool (gotta throw in an X to show that it's X-TREME!).

So I guess I'm just picky. I like plain old model numbers (Model 870) or descriptive names (Ruger Precision Rifle).

I'm also a hypocrite, because certain names don't annoy me, like T/C "Compass" while others do. The more badass they try to make the name sound the less I like it.

I'm on the fence about intentionally cheesey names, like the Henry "Long Ranger".

I'm still interested in seeing what it turns out to be.

It's been on google ads all day. So I reread the teaser site.

It's very "crossfit-esque" in it's style with fitness and themes...

I bet SAINT is an acronym for Springfield Armory something something Training. Individual, maybe? I dunno...

It's the "Springfield Armory International Nut Trap" and it'll be a polymer jockstrap with a 'Grip Zone' like the Gen 2 XD pistols.

In all seriousness though, folks around the 'net have been thinking it's an AR or possibly a 10mm version of the XD.

Don't know if there's any truth to it, but I've seen others claim they have gotten emails for the SINNER. A quick google came back with only those making that claim though, no real info.

What I do know is that none of the folks on derpyourlegacy.derp look anything like the customer that actually bought Springfield pistols from me.

That's so funny because I thought the same thing!! Going off of this and what Quazi said about names, I always hated XDs because of the "XD-xtreme-tacticool-tripleX" attitude so many had. Everyone I knew who had them wore bedazzled jeans and listened to Nickelback... and pronounced their trucks "Shivvy Silver-ayyy-doe" and "Shivvy Color-ayyy-doe". Maybe a few dated their cousin.

Not to mention they got it cuz it was the American Glock... then got mad when I informed them it was made in Croatia.

But hey, I now own an XD45 and like it... I just don't tell anyone.

My dad and a brother each have a XD(M) .45, and I actually really like them. The grip is comfortable and I shoot them well.

Other than all the lawyerware is there any particular reason why people are so down on the XD series of pistols? I've seen more malfunctions out of my Glocks, but that's just my very limited anecdotal experience (and I consider my Glocks to be reliable).

I just bought a 3.3 XDS 45 from a friend that needed some cash. I don't hate the gun and I wanted something different for carry besides my LCR. I'm not crazy about 45 acp though. Other than that, I'm curious about the XDs, too. I really haven't heard anything bad about them and I haven't had a chance to shoot this one yet.
It stops being funny when it starts being you.

I think there are a few reasons, most are just interweb opinion.

I think the Springfield marketing is the biggest thing: "Xtreme" and "Gripzone"... kinda like saying it's the "TURBOOOO" model
I think it is a Glock competitor that went after Glock at their own game... that made some enemies, especially to the Glock guys
I think it is the fact that it is pawned as an American company... but imported from Croatia
I think people are grumpy that the original HS2000 was a $300 gun and Springfield put their name on it and doubled the price
I think people hate some of the features: grip safety, high bore axis, heavy, etc.

I really like mine, I'm good with it. I think they are world class guns, but I chalk up the hate to the same category as Chevy vs Ford guys

Note: in my area, among the "gun crowd" that I see often, the XDs were shot and owned by the "tools" and "d-bags", so I was always kinda cynical about them. Kinda like if the bad kid in school wore a certain T-shirt, you wouldnt either because it put a bad taste in your mouth.

Yeah, they're marketing/naming conventions are pretty lame. Also, when I'm writing to non-gun people I always have to word my sentences in ways that won't make them think I'm making strange use of emoticons.

Some of those reasons for not liking Springfield XD pistols are legit. Thanks for the list.

I've seen some people recently saying that XD pistols are basically junk. That I don't understand. Probably Ford vs Chevy, like you said. Also, I've noticed a trend among gun people that if A is better than B by the tiniest margin then B is absolute garbage. (That's probably not an attitude limited to gun nerds, I just hang out with gun nerds a lot.)

I wonder if Springfield shares a marketing team with Taurus since both companies use some ridiculous ideas in regards to their gun names.

For example, the Taurus Curve (which I have handled and it is definitely not a gun for us lefty shooters) or the 'View' clear framed revolver.

You know, I actually don't have a problem with those names, as they are descriptive. (The firearms themselves might be silly, but that's a different issue.)

If they had named it something like Face Blaster 9000 then that would be a silly name. Actually, at some point I think that names become silly enough that I actually like them. I actually like the Henry Long Ranger. From a strategic standpoint violent names might cause problems with the anti-gun press, even if they are intended as jokes.

The anti-gun press wouldn't like a gun no matter what the name is. It could shoot unicorn farts and be made of Nerf and they'd still want it banned.

But you raise a good point about names, though. At least with Taurus, the names are describing what the gun is. The Curve is just that, curved and the View is a clear framed (well, partially anyway) revolver.

Whatever the Saint turns out to be, I hope it's at least a good gun or program or whatever the hell it is since Springfield is being vague as hell as to exactly what it is.

Okay, new theory. They are calling it the Springfield Saint. Their advertising has some crap about protecting your legacy.

I think that Springfield Armory is going to push to get John Moses Browning canonized as a saint.

Or maybe John C. Garand? Maybe both?
