March-May ZS Postal Match

Post by elricfate » Thu Mar 03, 2016 8:59 am

It's mostly spring! Let's get outside!

Time for the March-May ZS Postal Match! You will find your scenario below, as well as your targets. Have fun!

Prize: TBD by the ZS board.
You clear the blood and bile from your clothing as best you can. The stench has invaded your nose, making your eyes water. You still hear the occasional pop of gunfire in the distance. Not far now. Not far.

You take off on foot toward where you think the sounds are coming from and come upon a wagon-train of vehicles. The little cowboys are taking potshots at the indians who surround their camp. They don't seem concerned, but from the distance you're at, you can hear them coming. The ravenous horde, attracted by the sounds of gunfire, are coming.

You sit, quietly waiting, waiting for the horde to crest the ridge beyond you. As you wait you take note of a few walkers heading your way, attracted by the sound of your traversal through the woods. They seem slow, halting, almost like they're not sure you're there. You can see one get down on all fours and sniff the air like a dog. Well, that's new.

You unsling your rifle and take aim.

Please print four of the targets included in this post (you may also use the Alternative target if your range master does not allow silhouette targets) and use three rounds per target. There are no caliber restrictions (except on reduced scale targets), and you may choose a weapon you are comfortable with.

Targets (as well as expanded rules) are available on the Postal Match details page, or the links at the end of this post. Please send all targets to postalmatch@zombiehunters.org. In the event of a tie, targets will be judged based on how close to the bullseye they were. Remember all targets should be printed on 8.5"x11" paper for scoring purposes.

Remember targets are due no later than May 31st at 11:59pm (EST). Good luck!

Target: Zombies (3 at 25 yards, 1 at 50 yards)

Alt. Target: Zombies Alt (3 at 25 yards, 1 at 50 yards)

Fake Edit: Additionally, thanks to one of our members (MingTheMerciless), we have reduced scale targets for use as well. These I am strictly limiting to .22lr for their use, which should coincide with any local indoor range caliber restrictions as well as make scoring a fair bit easier since there won't be giant holes in it.

If you want to use one of the reduced scale targets, they are available on the Postal Match page. Standard math says that if you use the 1/2 scale or 1/4 scale, you half the distance you shoot at and quarter the distance you're shooting at, respectively.

The link to the target is dead for me. Is anyone else having this problem?

Are the postal matches still a thing? I missed out doing them over a decade ago being that I was like....18.

Now I have guns and ammo to do them with!

Sadly they folded up - poor participation... :(

Damn. Can we start it back up again?? Would be cool to have a running scenario like in the post.

I'd help coordinate/write even if theres low participation.

I'd be fine running them again, I would even give others the chance to craft scenarios (I had a narrative going, but it's been awhile so I'm rusty).

Just without prizes, until we can make sure that the participation will stay strong, I think. Bragging rights, if you will.

I know I'd participate.

Maybe restart the narrative from scratch or something?

And yeah. No prizes. Just bragging rights.

No prizes would be fine with me - most of the other postals didn't offer prizes.

How did it start out? Like the virus starts spreading and you need to get from point A to point B.

Not sure what the targets look like but it could start off with pistol. 5 in the chest. Then 5 in the head at a closer range. Let me know how I can help implement this again beside just participating. (If needed!)

I may be interested in this but it will depend on my physical limitations whether I can participate.

I'm keen, might have to modify it a bit for Australian regulations (min distance at local range is 109 yards)

also, link to range targets is not working

Yeah, not sure what the rules for aus are.

At least in Canada it isnt that bad. I've invested in a bunch of target equipment. clay holders, target stands etc which I can use at my farm.

Only thing I cant do it pistol. But the range I go to isnt that far away and usually pretty deserted.

No handgun for Aussies then?

Ok I'm in. Let's start with a scratch narrative and let people use their own targets. Maybe have a quarter or local equivalent for size reference and call winners based on that? And while we might focus on targets inside 25 y/m to accommodate those with indoor ranges we could still accept entries from those with a 109 y/m minimum. Maybe make it pistols inside 25 or rifles outside 100? And now and again have a shotgun shoot with reports of clay's broken?

So it would be based on group size VS scoring rings?
I'm OK with that.
I should have access to 25 & 50 yd outdoor ranges as well as 100 yd rifle range.
If there isn't anybody else around I can walk up closer on the 50 ft indoor range to get 7 yds, etc.

good start!

I'm in.

We can always use a shooting competition or law enforcement qualification standard as that may be more universal.
