What do you think of this ammo

Post by Apathy » Wed Sep 24, 2014 12:10 pm

It is supposed to be comparable to that fancy blackhills cartridge. The one that makes you able to get a head shot from a mile away with 14 inch carbines.

I just bought a box to see how it works.

Some guns won't stabilize those heavy bullets, but you'll soon find out if yours will, I guess

Then you should be good to go with anything 68grs+

Price seems nice.

Sorry I can't be more help with the ammo.

Those bullets stabilize in a 1:7 barrel. I get good accuracy out of my loads using that bullet, if I get everything right I can get 1" 5 shot groups. At worst I get is 1.5".
As far as terminal ballistics I bet it leaves a smidge better than a welt or general skin redness.

So, 5.56 is a viable less than lethal round. Right?

Only if you believe rifle rounds should only start with a .3.... and pistol rounds should only start with a .4.... preferably ending in a "5"

Well, maybe for like a airsoft round. If you shoot yourself, just make sure you have eye pro and a heavy sweat shirt. Should be fine..

Just to be the Grammar Nazi, I believe the term is "less lethal". Theoretically helps encourage discipline when engaging potential threats. We've all heard the tales of "non-lethal" tasers killing noncompliant subjects, and the IDF learned the hard way that their riot ammo wasn't safe to be sprayed indiscriminately into the citizenry. Also, the nanny in me (eww) wants to remind you that the airsoft instructions say not to point your weapon at animals or people.

I don't think there's a bullet on the planet that makes a person able to get head shots from a mile away. Sure, some cartridges are better at this job than others, but it's a matter of skill, not equipment.

If I'm shooting beyond 300 yards, I want something other than 5.56x45. Give me .308 or better! Beyond that, I'm going to move closer if I need to shoot something.

He was joking. No one believes you can reliably head shoot people from a mile away with that cartridge

Why's that? With some quality ammo double that range is no problem.

No, we used Gingerbread Man's handloads on a coconut. The cartridges were loaded with the same bullet as the cartridges in the link. I believe the velocity is similar.
