...anyways, yea, that's why I just buy tax stamps. They're not really THAT much more than the stock..er... brace. *wink wink*
Ive thought about this though...

Brace and buffer tube...200 bucks

Tax stamp, 200 bucks, buffertube, regular stock (20-150ish)

So aren't you really saving money after all?
No, what you save is not having to file papers to travel with it, or being able to have ti in a non-SBR state, or being able to do all the things you can't do with a registered SBR. With an AR pistol, I can drive to wherever, with maybe two exceptions. Concealed carry law also covers AR pistols most of the time if I wanted to have one loaded in the trunk or something.

So it's not as simple as just saving money.

Edit: You've have to buy a stock, buffer tube assembly, and the other mounting hardware for a rifle too, so be sure to add that cost on top of your $200 stamp in the "did I save money" equation.
I already mentions the extra stock and stuff in addition to the SBR stamp

Black Ace Tactical owner Lemoine told Shooting Sports Retailer the ATF letter applies solely to the shotgun design submitted to the Firearms Technology Branch and doesn’t apply to uses with AR pistols.
For now, at least.

I'd really like to see the "submitted sample" in question.
a short-barreled shotgun design that incorporated the SB15 brace.
And it seems to have involved a question about a forward pistol grip.

Weird.

Apparently this was the sample they sent in for evaluation:

That was linked in the comments to the article on The Firearms Blog, so far from a solid source, but it fits the description.

If I understand it correctly, you can't put that on a shorter than 18" barreled shotgun because any shotgun with a shorter than 18" barrel is always an SBS or AoW. It has nothing to do with the stock/brace as much as it does with the barrel.
Pistols do not have a minimum barrel length thus the addition of a brace does not change it's classification.

That's how I read the letter anyway.

Aim has wolf nine for 199/k if you all are in need. Grabbed a case of it and 500 of 223 for $119. Wanted a k of that too but that was all that was available. Ammo prices are pretty good right now for steel...

Anyone heard anything on the Ruger AR-556 that's been out for awhile ?

I've read a few reviews and they all seem to point to the rifle being a good deal for the price.

Id buy one to stow away as a beater/loaner gun. Something that isn't a piece of shit that will work and is dependable, but not something I want to drop a pretty penny on in case It gets shit bent.

That, and trying to call it a pistol, while putting a vfg on it (but we put it on horizontal, so the vfg isn't really a vfg!), it sounds like the sig brace is really just the mayonnaise on their poo poo sandwich.

The pistol/shotgun issue is less about shouldering/VFGs, and more about "it has a smooth bore"

There is only two definitions for a smooth bore weapon, I think. Shotgun and SBShotgun. Well... destructive device too I guess, but that takes other considerations.

So I think it's just because a shotgun doesn't have a way to be a handgun. They are defined, by the GCA, as having a rifled barrel. You'll note the Judge has a rifled barrel. One of many reasons it performs so shitty.

I can't decide if I should spend the money on a flip to side 3x magnifier mount or just sell the magnifier. I got it as a package deal. The stock mount sits too low for my AR's setup. Is a magnifier worth having or is it just a "well it depends on what you want" type deal? Someone tell me what to do!!!!!!!!! :gonk:

Shot a PMR-30 today. Shot the front sight clean off in under 40 rounds. Brand-spanking-new too.

Now, sorry, I'm Canadian (so I don't know all the ATF laws), but, on a shotgun that short, isn't a VFG a benefit to allow easier pumping? I don't set these laws, I'm just thinking (and doesn't Dave have an 870 with a 6 inch barrel or something ridiculous?).

Barrel on mine is 6.5". The VFG serves two purposes: Firstly, since the handguard is so truncated (obviously a standard wont fit) you need a place to put your hand. Also, it keeps your hand away from the muzzle; it wouldn't be hard to accidentally slip a little forward when racking a shortened standard handguard and end up shooting your hand off. Even still, I always advise people to not attempt to rapid fire it as more than one person has shot their hand apart when a VFG broke on a stubby gun. There's a video of it happening with a Glock 18

Got a wicked good deal today from a guy in one of my local groups on an AR pistol with a brace and a SIGTac scope.

I'm not sure about the scope, it's a 3x and it does red/green which always makes me leery. I am going to have to put some irons on it. Does anyone have any experience with the SIGTac scope?

This thing has a Fail Zero bolt and a geissele (sp?) trigger. I would say it's nicer than my rifle, other than the optic, and I'm gonna give it to my wife for Christmas.

Call EOTech and see if they can change the emitter out for a regular one. They repaired mine for $75 after it pooped.
