Ruger released new guns for 2013.

Post by Mikeyboy » Fri Jan 04, 2013 11:12 am

Ruger over the last few years seem to wow us with a flurry of new guns in Jan. This year its kind of lackluster, and I think some are fails.

http://www.ruger.com/index.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

There is an SR45, Full size for now, but I love to see a compact model come out.

The Ruger American Bolt Rifle, now has a compact little brother version. I got excited about this, but than I realized it only comes in .243 and 7mm....WHY NO .308 :gonk:

There is a Ruger LCR in .22 Magnum...neat until I seen its only a 6 shot. They already make an 8 shot .22lr LCR :?:

The worst is the LC380....At first I thought, awesome an updated LCP, maybe it will have better sights and slide lock, then I looked at the dimension and weight and was like WTF. All it is, is a Ruger LC9 but in .380. No increase in capacity, or reduction in weight over the 9mm. Its a 17oz, 7+1, full sized .380 pistol.

Overall I'm disappointed.

I'd been looking at getting an American in .243, a compact would be even better. And I've been hoping for a SR45, I'll have to get my hands on one of those.

As for the LC380 and the LCR in 22 mag, I don't foresee them being good sellers.

I was looking for a 308 version too when I saw the compacts on the front page. Must want to drive sales to the scout (which I still would like to have tbh)

lc380 makes no sense. If you want a pistol that size WHY not get the one in 9? /confused.

I'm still hot for a 22lr pistol and on the fence between a buckmark and a 22/45. Cash is low for now so neither is that high on my radar.

The guide gun looks pretty badass, but if you are going to make a short barreled guide gun (presumably used for putting down injured, dangerous animals) why wouldn't you chamber it in some of the more powerful .40+ cartridges? Who needs/wants a long range round like a 300 WM, 300 RCM, 30-06, or .338 when the idea of a guide gun is shooting things at 30 yards or under and stopping them with heavy bullets?

That's a good point. It's nice to see companies offering more bolt guns with irons at least. For a few years there finding a bolt action rifle with iron sights was really challenging.

I'd love to see that Guide in 308.

That would make for a pretty nice CQB brush gun for hogs! :awesome:

I guess I was thinking more along the lines of guide gun as Alaskan brown bear backup or African animals, but the .308 would work good for the lower 48.

Based on a poll on a popular outdoor forum, the most popular rounds in Alaska are the .300 Win Mag, followed by .338 Win Mag and .30 Govt. 06. The .300 & .338 Win Mag alone made up more than 50% of the survey with .30 Govt. 06 trailing at ~20%. I don't agree with it either but, Ruger knows the market and the demand is out there.

I personally like 7mm Weatherby Magnum for my do everything rifle. :awesome:

ETA: Ruger .45s have always been excellent and highly underrated. I might pick one up as a truck gun.

I dont know if I would want a bolt gun for brush hogs. Brush hog hunting doesnt give you a lot of room for error IMO.

I think a semi-auto would be a lot more safer IMO.

Take note that I did not list the .375 in my post. It's a beast of a round. But when I hear the term "guide gun" the first thing that pops into my head is some rich hunter on safari getting charged by a wounded cape buffalo and the guide needing to make a quick shot to put the animal down right now. .375 would be on my list, the others wouldn't. .458 Lott or .450 Rigby comes to mind!

Just making sure that you noticed that the Ruger Guide gun is listed as available in .375.

Yup, I saw it. Just wish they had used that as more of a starting or middle point instead of the largest one. I mean if you're gonna build a guide gun why not shoot for the moon!

Aw, no more P345 on the site... :( I guess they're going to be replacing it with the SR45.

The SR45 looks solid, I might look into one once its MA approved (The fact it uses 10 round mags standard is a huge plus here, and as I understand it, everyone should own a .45).

That .22 Mag, LCR just has me going "Huh?!". Why is it not a 7-8 shot? I just cant believe that a cylinder designed for 5 rounds of .38-.357 mag can only support 6 rounds of .22 mag.

Kinda a light year, maybe they have something saved for Shot-show?

This is the one I think is really clown shoes. I mean, .22 Mag isn't particularly cheap, it isn't interchangeable with .22lr, it isn't a great defensive cartridge and I doubt it gets much more velocity out of that short barrel. If someone has a disability that prevents them from using a semiautomatic pistol and/or dealing with the harsh recoil from a .38/.357 in such a light revolver, then the 8 shot .22lr makes some sense. Eight rounds of good .22lr are certainly better than harsh words. I really struggle with 6 shots of .22 Mag being useful in this platform.

Now, I would've liked to see a 6 shot .327 Mag LCR. I'd trade my 5 shot .38+P LCR in on something like that in a heartbeat.

Yea I thought the same thing with .327 mag. I figured if Ruger already makes the SP101 in .327 it would just be a matter of time for an LCR version. Ruger pushed the .327 round into the spotlight with the SP101, but not making an LCR version shows a lack of confidence in the round by Ruger.

What, no new AR/AK variants? But evil rifles are selling so well!
