use dollar store glow necklaces to help keep track of pets

Post by xLionx » Thu Oct 29, 2015 11:28 pm

I like to use dollar store glow necklaces to keep track of our dogs when I go out to the workshop or firepit, but it could also be useful for camping trips.

Here is a quick video I put together to help spread the idea

Not a bad idea. NiteIze makes a clip on light for dog collars for the same purpose. Works pretty well.

I have one of these on my chocolate lab. He blends in so well at night that I've lost him while he was standing next to me, so having a blue blinky gives me something to keep track of in the yard. It also gets used when I take him (leashed) running in the city at night to help cars see him. If I didn't use it multiple times a day, glow sticks would make sense. I don't know why more people don't have some sort of light on their dogs.

My only concern using glowsticks/necklaces is a dog's propensity to chew things up if they get hold of them. The snap these items make when you light them is glass breaking inside that has kept the chemicals separated until you are ready for the glow. You do not want your dog chewing that, so if you use these, please make sure your dog doesn't.

There has been an online prank of sorts encouraging parents to color their children's bathwater with the chemicals from inside glowsticks. Don't do that.

I love the idea of lights for pups.... especially if I have a Beagle that likes to open doors like a Velociraptor...

I have done the glow sticks and the little LED lights on my beast while out camping. It's entertaining to see the little light bounce around in the woods at night.

He's a dark red wheaten Ridgeback and disappears at dusk.

Ok my mind kept going here:

From this day to the ending of the world,
But we in it shall be rememberèd—
We few, we happy few, we band of brothers;
For he to-day that sheds his blood with me
Shall be my brother
