Making camping backpacks for toddler nephews

Post by wildman800 » Wed Oct 21, 2015 8:03 pm

I've got 3 nephews who want to go camping. The ages are 2&3. This is what I'm thinking of putting together for their first backpacks:

TODDLER BoB

1 liter canteen, Plastic mess kit, Blanket, Teddy Bear, Wet Ones, Small Pillow

We'll only be "hiking" out the front door around to their backyard. I have the father and the 13 year old brother helping. We'll have a 3 room tent, ice chests with food/drinks and a fire pit set up.

We'll plan on Supper followed by S'mores and a breakfast. We'll probably have their 2 dogs with us also. The bathroom in the house will be utilized.

Any suggestions??
The best luck is what you make yourself!

Small toy, snack.
Tommy loves to carry 2 Hot Wheels and a cup of trail mix.

If a one-eyed razorback barbarian warrior was chasing you with an ax, you just had to hope you could outrun him.

A 1-liter will be too heavy for the little guys. Let them pack a 20 oz bottle, snack, sandwich, toys as ZG said and definitely a little trowel for digging. Little boys love to dig.

You can carry all the extras because YOU will be carrying one of them if they get too pooped.

I've been wondering if 1 liter would be too heavy for the boys. I'll look for smaller "toy" canteens.

I'm assuming you are British or Australian. For those in the US, he means a flashlight. Don't need toddlers out in the woods with torches and pitchforks trying to overthrow the woodland beings :)

I know the perfect small LED torch to get them. I like that & they will sleep better having their own "light sabre" in their hands while they sleep.

Why not? A little revolution now and then isn't a bad thing.

What about a toy bug net and toy magnifying glass? Turn a game into an educational opportunity. You could also get a toy doctors kit and make them their own "first aid kit" for boo boos.
