Newbie here from Saskatchewan Eh!

Post by amped45 » Wed Oct 18, 2017 12:57 pm

Hailing in from the great white north. Family of 4 and live on an acreage. Figured we were not prepared enough, and research led me to this site. Probably don't have a lot to contribute yet, however plan on doing a lot of learning!

Welcome! What are you preparing for? How much acreage? I'm sure you've got some stuff to contribute.

Hi there!

I bet you have plenty to contribute. Often people just need to feel bold enough to participate. We are all learners here. Some are more opiniated than others, but we like having new people and new perspectives here.

I'll also ask: what are you preparing for? We love all types of prepardness, and love helping people get started in the hobby and lifestyle.

Thanks for the welcomes!

I am not preparing for any one thing really. We have had a couple of friends who have been evacuated (BC wildfires about 4 months ago) and now my bosses daughter was evacuated yesterday (Sask Fires). Would just like to be a bit more prepared if we did have to pack everything up and bolt. We own a Motorhome we could take if it came to that.

Other stuff too like wiring in our house to run off a generator if needed. (Motorhome has a 5000 watt built in and we have a Honda Eu3000is as well)

My family consists of Me, my wife, and 2 daughters, with my mom living alone on the acreage behind us. So in a dire situation I would be the one to lead them. So I better be learning some stuff.

So I guess I need to be prepared to hunker down at the house.. but also to pack up and leave when needed.

Wow! You have some serious stuff to prepare for. Where do you see yourself going if a fire shows up? How much warning have others had?

That's a big asset. Make sure it's stocked if that's going to be your BOV (bug out vehicle). Keep gas/diesel onhand so you can be ready to go and not get stuck somewhere with no fuel, I'm sure you've thought of that though.

There's a really good post that was just posted about food rotation preps, that would be something to think/read about especially in a vehicle because it can often be forgotten about.

Once again glad you're here!
