Hello there. I'm Foolbard (or just Bard), a writer from Colorado. I've been lurking for a few days and decided to join because it seems fairly active here, and I'd like to learn about emergency preparedness. I've read the rules and they seem pretty self-explanatory. One reason this place appeals to me more than others is because it's not an armchair militia where each person thinks he or she is going to get to carry out sociopathic fantasies in the zombie apocalypse.

I like practicality. Even when I write fiction, I prefer realism, and I'm squeamish about gore and excessive violence. I'd rather learn how to survive disasters, avoid confrontation, and prepare for trouble before it begins. I don't know much, so I'm here to learn for the sake of myself and my writing under the idea that if you're prepared for zombies, you're prepared for anything. I do enjoy weapons, but for their own sake--the mechanics, tactics, etc., not the actual violence. In the times I've had to defend myself, it's never sat well with me.

At any rate, I'm glad to be here, and I look forward to what I can learn.

Thanks for the welcome. I've been to Iowa once, passing through on the way back from Michigan.

Wow. Somebody give this guy the complimentary ZS toaster oven (dual fuel, with solar power/hand crank option, doubles as an emergency power bank/NOAA Weather Alert Radio).

Welcome and I think you're going to have a lot to contribute, Foolbard.

My original neck of the woods-ish. Okay, maybe not, but Illinois, at least. I was born on Scott AFB and lived for about five minutes just outside St. Louis.

Thank you. I could use a toaster, actually. I'm afraid my experience is limited, but I do like to learn.

Hiya. I'd like to be a former Coloradan as well. My goal is to get somewhere within a few miles of the beach, somewhere hot and humid.

Welcome aboard. Stick around for a while and ZS will grow on you.

Colorado has some of the best outdoor scenery around.

Thank you. I would like to stick around, though it's difficult to know where to begin.

It is pretty here, when it's not snowing. We hates snow, precious. Hates it!

Read. Read. Read. Use the search feature and ask good questions. Be ready to be called out when you say something dumb. The humor here can range from dry and obscure to fully outrageous. ZS'ers will go to extreme lengths to help someone who wants to learn. We want to see other equip themselves with the knowledge to survive.

Thank you for the advice. I do ask dumb questions or say dumb things from time to time, so I don't mind getting the forum equivalent of a nudge in the ribs now and again. I prefer to learn from people who will say, "No, that's wrong because..." rather than hedging on what they think, or trying to play with kid gloves just because I'm the FNG. It's like when I was in TKD; I wanted to spar with someone who was trying to actually kick or punch me, so long as they weren't trying to do me serious harm. If I'd stuck with it, I might have gotten to that point: "I want you to hit me as hard as you can."

Welcome from Missouri! Only been on here for a few months myself, but I really enjoy the forums so far. Lots of interesting discussion. Finding long threads/digging through old threads a little intimidating myself, but looking things up with the search function seems to be working out okay for me. That being said, I love research! :D

Thank you for the welcome, fellow Browncoat! Bonus points for quoting my favorite line from the show in your signature.

My other favorite is, "So no more runnin'. I aim to misbehave."

Welcome from Western Colorado. There are quite a few of us even though we are not an active chapter.

Thank you. I wondered in Colorado had any ZS chapters, though I currently don't have the time or ability to get involved in something more than the forum right now.
