New guy from Chicago

Post by buddyroo » Sun May 07, 2017 5:36 pm

Hello, all!

I found these forums while looking up mods to a survival knife. Seems like a great place to learn and share ideas.

My home is in the Chicago burbs but I spend a fair amount of time on my farm in southeast Missouri.

Hey there! Glad to have you!

So what knife did you choose? Or are you still choosing?

What interests you? Do you prepare for anything?

I know I have learned a ton here. I"m always learning from the great people here.

Hi there & welcome! :D
The Chicagoland chapter is pretty active: ZSC:020.
There are a lot of different events & monthly meetings are rotated between 3 locations to allow as many people as possible to attend.

Welcome! I'm fairly new as well, but have really enjoyed and learned a lot from these forums!

I was looking at the Cold Steel Bushman Bowie. Haven't decided whether to buy one.

My long term interest is to make my land in southeast Missouri suitable as both a second home and a place to go if things go bad and urban living becomes difficult. A year and a half ago I purchased a farm. The farm needs a lot of work as it has been neglected for many years. Right now the priority is bushhogging, clearing and fencing to make it suitable for running my cattle. I bought a Caterpillar bulldozer and a Case backhoe to get the job done. My equipment operating skills are virtually nonexistent but I have an employee who can do pretty much anything.

At this point, prepping is taking a backseat to fixing up the place and getting my cattle operation in order.

I'd like to attend a meeting of the Chicago chapter. Where are meeting dates and locations posted?

Welcome!!!

You seem like you got your work cut out for you. There are many farmers and homesteaders on here that I know will help you out if you need it.

As far as your Cold Steel knife option, it's pretty hard to beat Cold Steel for the $20-$50 price range. My favorite beater knife is the $20 GI Tanto and that thing takes a beating.

The Chicago chapter is very active and I regret not making it to any events when I was near the area... so make sure you check out their stuff or you too may regret it hahaha

You guys are amazing. I wish Nebraska was like you.

I wish OK was like them-

I don't think any of the other chapters are still active, at least not on their level.

Welcome from south Seattle area!

And hey ZS005 is very active, we just don't post on forums much anymore. But we have 3-4 camp outs a year and we invite each other to shindigs. So don't count us out! But ZS20 is definitely top dog for four activity!
