Re: My BOAT and BOAT SAW.Update 5/7/09
Why are they called BOAT's? Bring On A Trek?
Anyway, I just can't get into the tin. just too small. For a little more size, there are a whole lot more things you can bring. But that's just me. I can appreciate the zen of the very small kit. Very nice job!

I like a lot of this. However, there appears to be a lot of things I'd like to have in addition to this.
And I agree - that's a LOT of ammo.
But the tiered approach is great. A very clean way to do it. Very nice. That's kind of my philosophy.

The Definitive QuikClot / Celox / clotting material thread
I have long been thinking about adding this to a gunshot trauma pouch. But I have never been trained for it, and have read a number of opinions as to it's value. So, let's have a brain-dump on this stuff... Is it useful? Have you used it? (hope not...but highly valued opinion!) What brand/type is be...

Use whatever. That 124 +/- a grain or two is irrelevant. The 154g SP are better for longer range or hunting.
Get whatever is cheapest and works in your gun. Which should generally be everything.

Cheap? HArd to beat the Mosin suggestion. You hunting plains or scrub/woods?
If the critter is under 100 yards a used Mossberg 500 with rifled slugs will do just fine. Not a bad SHTF tool either...

My bag has a switchable 120/240 direct line. It also has central AC, a freezer/refrigerator unit, and a 22 inch plasma/Blue ray that folds out. No reason to suffer just because the world is over.

Re: What to do with my guns on a road trip?
Going from FL to OH (GA, TN, KY) It appears:
The Gun must be in at least a zippered case or glove compartment.
It must not be loaded.
Pretty simple...but I'm going to read it again

I have significant anti-insect devices in my main bag. Some of the bugs are big enough that I use the knife on them.

Looks good; Feedback
Another bigger knife. Something in a full size folder with serrations, at least.
Poncho - been said
Get a real cup for the brew kit - you've got space.
Keep the Lensatic. Works fine.
How long / how far do you have to get home and what lattitude?

Kit looks good, I'm assuming your thinking a short term (3 day) kit. I live in Florida too, so here is my input: I like the Swiss Army Knife but I would use one with a saw blade (Ranger model, etc.). - Noted - I love my climbers. The space blanket is good idea for shelter building, warmth, and shoc...

I have indeed checked the compass - works fine. Thermometer too! Whistle could be louder, no surprise there. I have considered eliminating that however - and going button compass only. That would easily allow a condom for water (or whatever) and some duct tape... Water carrier....good point. Could s...

Gotta go with the Wave - it's just a great all around. Not too big/too much - not too small/too little. I EDC a New Wave with bit kit and it is almost all I ever need. If only I had a corkscrew I would have it all. Performs well for everything but helping me drink wine though. But if it's corkscrews...

Minnesota - that can be harsh weather! +1 on shopping somewhere besides Cabelas. The catalogue is full of great ideas on the crapper - but I shop other places for the most part. But...for 40% off, go for it. The Boots/Bag/Pack advice is golden. If you are looking for a big $ purchase spend it there....

Re: Survival Pouch
I personally would trade the Swiss Army Knife for a Gerber/Leatherman/Whatever or a neck knife (something you can possibly cut wood with). I would also trade the bandaids and all that stuff for something that stands a chance at saving a life. Possibly a compact triangle bandage? It would allow you ...
