Re: Firearms Chat 3: #pewpewlife

Today I learned that there is such a thing as 9mm rimfire and that it was made for the Winchester Model 36 bolt action shotgun. What would you use a 9mm shotgun shell for?

Is that a tarp under your sleeping pad? It looks almost like a moving blanket in the photo.

I'm very interested in reading about your Solo stove and your fire-starting adventures. I have a Solo stove that I haven't had a chance to try out yet.

The Asia Times Online (atimes.com) is good for non-Western-Hemisphere perspective. BBC The Guardian Al Jazeera Reuters CBC The Economist The Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists often has some very good, very in-depth reporting on a number of things that are underreported elsewhere. Some content is beh...

Eugene is Josh McDermitt's first major role. I think he's going to have a very good career.

Re: Why do you prep?

Both of my parents grew up during the Depression, so I have almost always had a week or so's worth of food on hand in case of unexpected weather and band-aids and Neosporin handy and the like. I also learned at a relatively young age to always have a flashlight and enough extra cash on hand to eithe...

Re: Blackout in London

London has blackouts from time to time and riots time to time. We have thread about London riots in here around August 2011. Heck they have annual organized riots such as the million man mask. In this case the power came back on in short order. Yes, I know. I was making a joke because I understand ...

Re: When TV shows and movies get it wrong

After Michonne worked the bolt for the first few shots, I didn't think it was necessary to take the screen time to show it for every shot. It was implied by then. Still too many rounds for that rifle.

Rosita's pistol looked a lot bigger than a .380 to me, but they never did show it very clearly.

Re: "Walking Dead" Cable Series

They should have shown killing Abraham at the end of last season and then saved Glenn for the season premiere.

If Negan is taken out, one of his followers might step up to take over, but it wouldn't last long and the newbie would lose about half the followers right away.

Re: Shoulder Holster

Before I got my Galco, I was using a Blackhawk nylon shoulder holster that my pistol fell out of three times. I strongly suggest leather or Kydex for a shoulder rig.

Re: Shoulder Holster

I used a Galco Miami Classic shoulder holster when I drove a taxi. Like any other holster system, drawing becomes easier with practice. Drawing while standing was easier with belt tie-downs. Sitting in a car, the tie-downs didn't make much difference. My shoulder holster is horizontal but I was carr...

Re: Help Me Pick a New 9mm

Went to the range again today. This time I brought a friend who is new to shooting, so I spent a good chunk of the hour teaching him how to shoot my Winchester Model 94 and the Beretta 92 that I rented. He did pretty well with both. The Beretta 92 had about six failures to feed. The range officer sa...

Re: Help Me Pick a New 9mm

I'm looking for an all-metal pistol because recoil has become a problem with my .40 XD Subcompact. I'm not worried about or put off CZs in general because of that one I tried on Saturday. I just wish gun stores would rent one of every pistol they sell.

Re: Help Me Pick a New 9mm

Went to the range today. Rented a full-size CZ-75 BD and a Beretta PX4 Storm Compact. I did not realize until I was in my lane that the Storm had a polymer frame and a shorter barrel than I'm looking for. I tried it anyway and really liked it. The grip fit my hands well and wasn't bad for single-han...

Re: Help Me Pick a New 9mm

I'm more concerned with how barrel length affects recoil. Accuracy is another matter. I have a pretty bad flinch, but it's so consistent that I can compensate for it pretty well if I aim high and right.

The barrel on the Cougar is shorter than I'd like, but I'll take a look at one.
