Re: Worst Gun John Moses Browning ever created.

He worked at this literally until the day he died, and he did die at his workbench.... If any of you are in my neck of the woods, head up to Ogden UT and you can see JMB's actual workbench.... yes the one he died upon. http://theunionstation.org/index.php/museums-2/john-m-browning-firearms-museum/"...

Re: So you got kicked out of a group/or left for some reason

Not to be a dick but capitalization & punctuation are important to written communication. "help your uncle jack off that horse" vs. "Help your Uncle Jack off that horse!" See the difference there? It doesn't have to be perfect (FSM knows mine isn't) but at least try. As for the original question I g...

Re: Surviving A Fall From Great Height

I'm betting this has been discussed in great depth at every drop zone in the world. You can either be a pessimist & try to go out with a bang by aiming at something really solid or in some cases really expensive. One guy I knew had a beef with a local politician & always claimed he would do hi...

Re: Congrats, you just won the lottery!

I have my eye on some land in E. Ks. (some of you may remember my thread here about walling in a farm), it's 160acres of crop, pasture, & timber with a couple of seasonal streams & ponds. Assuming I could get it at a reasonable price (family politics) I would move in a trailer (hook ups already ther...

Re: "Zombie Tower" Redneck Zombie Comedy

Fun story so far, I'm only on page 13 but I'm planning to read the whole thing. I liked how you gave us a quick overview of what caused the outbreak & how it spread before introducing the characters. Most mistakes I'm seeing are little things that are very easy to do while trying to transfer a story...

Re: Gripes about gun stores

One that I've seen from both sides of the counter is the guy that thinks the ideal pistol for a woman should be a .25 auto (sometimes they recommend a .32 or even a .380) in the smallest frame possible, preferably in chrome or nickel finish (so it's easier to spot in the purse) with pretty grips. Th...

No idea what I would have done, like someone else (Vic. Lee??) said I've got lots of experience with dumb asses but none with actual terrorists so probably just assume it's a stupid prank. Most likely call it in & keep an eye from a distance if possible. Although if I saw him under the right circums...

So now one gun & no ammo is a "shock & awe arsenal"??? Makes ya wonder just what credentials someone needs to be a reporter? I like to think I would have done the right thing but then again who's to say that it's not karma rewarding me for being a wonderful person. I've been to D.C. & it's go...

1) Your Weapon of choice and why? Like someone else said my mind is the primary weapon. But in the spirit that you asked, probably a AR with a 1911 in .45acp on my hip. For busting skulls up close & slightly quieter I like the idea of the Stanley Fubar (it may suck, I haven't done any tests). 2) Do...

Promptly point out the "no weapons" signs then smugly watch as the bad guy skulks away filled with embarrassment & shame, oh that & having my cell phone will allow me to quickly call 911. What more would I need? OK I'm done being a smart ass, thank you for your patience. I have no idea how I...

OK, I'll play along. First of all I'd contact a few people I trust & pick their brains, then there would be lots of research (lots & lots). I'd look for a place with geographical & climate features I wanted, populated by people I'd want for neighbors, and with a local & state govt. that I could coe...

I keep meaning to slap together a few of these stands for use at the farm, thanks for reminding me. Is there any reason why a person can't make their own IDPA targets?? I looked up the dimensions, got out a sharpie, yardstick, & some scrap cardboard to make my own. I know have a cardboard template w...

I like the idea of combining a powered climb with cutting the power & gliding to conserve fuel. Now I don't have any experience with powered parachutes but something I experienced while skydiving was that you can gain altitude by exploiting thermals. More than once I gained a thousand feet in altitu...

I always wondered where they got cold from. Seems like if it was still able to produce frost it wouldn't have been abandoned. :D

Re: If you didn't have a firearm...

Over the years I've played around with constructing & using rabbit sticks, bolos, spears, atlatls, & bows. The results were mixed & often laughable, but I think I could probably put together a functional atlatl that I could use somewhat. That along with a rabbit stick would at least give me a chance...

Re: Potential underground refuge?

Well if you're halfway serious about it you could do some homework & find out who owns it. Then contact some like minded individuals & approach the owners with a offer to lease part of it. You might even be able to turn it into a profitable venture, lots of old mines around here are now used for sto...

Re: Firearms Cache/long term firearm storage

How about making up a cloth sock/sack to slide down inside the tube? Might be a cheaper and easier way to have a tube within a tube for easy extraction. I've often thought of trying to sew something up that when removed could be used as a small pack for carrying incidentals.

Thanks for the nice words fellas, I rewarded myself with some good bourbon. I like the idea of a wire/rattle can alarm, maybe even tweak it by bending some of the branches enough to keep the wire/line under tension. Out of curiousity, what's the length and width of those cedar trunks? Might b...

Probably shoulda made plans with ZS members in the city or surrounding area. Trust the people on the ground who know the area and ask them. That would probably be a really smart first move. Maybe do a internet search & see if there's a outdoor or hardware store anywhere close where you might be abl...

Re: Walling in a farm when the dead rise up.

Had a talk with my brother during a recent visit & I do believe we've come up with a passable solution that stay's within the original parameters. It's quick, can be accomplished by 4 to 10 people with the tools available, & doesn't require much of anything that's not already in place. We recently h...
