Re: Robot Uprising - Or, what to do when AI Does All The Job

Re: Do-It Yourself Ration Packs By Mantis - the Sequel

+ 1 on sharing the condensed milk secret  I carry can or two of condensed sweetened milk in my prep supplies. Great for a civilized cup of coffee or even quick energy booster by itself. I do wonder about the weight savings of using a shelf stable creamer substitute (I keep a 3 oz container o...

Re: Do-It Yourself Ration Packs By Mantis - the Sequel

Really great thread. Gold, almost platinum menu by op imho. Just 1) sub the strawberry pop tart with blueberry 2) sub the Nescafé with Starbucks or Bustello instant sachets 3) protect the plastic membrane on the fruit cups. + 1 on sharing the condensed milk secret  I carry can or two of conde...

Re: melee weapons of choice

I will take a sling. Yea the same ones they use in the Bible. String, leather patch, rock. It's light, ammo is very available, you can carry a long distance sling and a short distance sling as a headband just like the ancient Greeks. They are suprisingly accurate and deadly. You have use of both yo...

Re: The Colony sci-fi series (on USA Network) discussion

I haven't watched any of season 2 yet, I need to get caught up. But yeah, year 1 was pretty interesting. It was kind of annoying how the aliens went back and forth between competent omnipotence (when they took down all the world's defenses in what, 45 minutes, I think they said?) but just one alien...

Re: Robot Uprising - Or, what to do when AI Does All The Job

Another vote for Wilson's Roboapocalypse to study up on robot uprising. Hmm, didn't see the Matrix anthology mentioned here...as some mentioned with the heavy dependence on technology and addiction-like attachment to smart phones seems like society in general is already working on swallowing the 'bl...

The Colony sci-fi series (on USA Network) discussion

Lets discuss The Colony sci-fi series on USA Network. Alien invasion apocalypse. Now partway into season 2. One of my daughters and I absolutely love this show. What we like so far. 1) Premium production values with sharp cinematography 2) Multilayered plotlines with plenty of breadth and depth. Sea...

Re: BOV replacement shopping - it begins

Nice. I assume that's a full sized spare? I believe it's better than a donut but not a full size spare. The only time I had a flat I repaired the tire at the spot. Glad I had a quality air compressor, tire plug kit and rubber cement in tool bag. It also provided the opportunity to read the OEM manua...

Re: BOV replacement shopping - it begins

BTW Jeep Grand Cherokee has plenty of nooks and crannies for prep supplies/tools. Here's an example of mine that I started a while back. easily blends into spare tire cavity https://photos.google.com/share/AF1QipN-XV1d_CCUUgqStOSYrR6Btwgpc5WG5RKnrol_89IU35sboHpta3tS86rIvomKjQ?key=MExiTncxcnpBN3JOTEd...

Re: Buging out is a bad idea? Some perspectives

Yep like Raptor said... In the past decade our family bugged out twice. Both flood related. The first was a planned bug out to hotel with nice indoor amenities at high elevation in West Jersey prior to Hurricane Irene hitting Jersey. I prepped the home but we received no damage. The second wa...

I'll vouch for the Jeep Wrangled Unlimited being a great 4wd and utility vehicle. Using one for 3 years as weekend driver and 4 wheeling in the mud in Wharton state park. Drove it stock . Cargo size and comfort a little bleh... went up to the 2015 Jeep Cherokee unlimited and loving it. Spendy but w...

Re: Several must read SCi-fi based Apocalyptic novels

The Passage by Justin Cronin is fantastic, first book of a trilogy. I won't ruin the story but it's interesting in that Cronin addresses both the immediate and long-term effects of an apocalyptic event while also keeping one hell of a story going. Reminds me somewhat of The Stand by Stephen King. ....

Teo, thanks for sharing that.
I've downloaded most of the files. Looks like the bulk of it was accrued as reference material for Peace Corps working in 3rd world countries. When I get some time I'll reassemble the whole product and advise how well it operates.

Jetboil all the way. Mine is about 5 year old used several times a year and it's still going strong. It's really efficient on heating liquids or soup.
Last to.e we used it to toast hot dogs and make Smores on hike along the NJ palisades river trail.

Re: Millennials lack basic survival skills

Millennials as scapegoats for all the perceived ills of the world is tired and lazy. Anyone who actually spends time with "millennials" will realize the capitol M millennials we hear about are a small minority, or in some cases practically mythological. Just like the silly Heinlein quote that won't...

Why ya bothering with those cheap $300 gloves when you can get some quality heated ones for $500 https://www.outdoorresearch.com/en/catalog/product/view/id/64218/category/2206/ That said I'm sure there are tasks/jobs where these type of gloves and expense is validated, especially if your AO is somew...
