Re: Fear The Walking Dead

The commentary on recent events nearly had me turning off the episode, I really like getting away from the news headlines lately.

I'm going backpacking? Looking for first pack

As we packed up our car camping site yesterday morning, the guys all decided that we'd gather our lighter gear, get backpacks and head for an overnight in Southern Illinois. None of us currently own a ruck, we're just casual gear collectors who car camp at campgrounds and concerts. My goal is to kee...

Re: Fear The Walking Dead

I'm truly half-asleep from the show thus far. A lot of quiet conversations, the characters aren't hitting me, and the action scenes could have been done better. A single zombie walking across a room slowly...Why not take advantage of them being newly dead and make them faster? Not a full sprint, but...

Re: A Little Tomahawk/Big Knife Love.

Getting into Filipino stick work, I'd love a cheap 'hawk to mess around with. I'm not a thrower, there seems to be a deep divide between the throwing enthusiasts and those using them for actual chopping. I'm a realist who only trains with smaller knives, but there is a distinct beauty in how a Bowie...

Re: Designated handgun rig?

One alternative to a vest or belt is a shoulder-bag, most companies offer a satchel outfitted for this purpose under the 'active shooter bag' or similar moniker. The Sneaky Bag company pioneered this and are still very popular for guys who carry loadouts like the one you described on a daily basis f...

Re: What Did You Do Today To Prepare?

Today I activated a new bank account that will let me collect more interest and save money on transactions, will be depositing some stored cash, and am researching how to build my credit with my first card I'm waiting on. That all could add up to an extra hundred a year which will make it easier to ...

My carbine class group now wants to do a Combat Shotgun day. I've never fired one in my life, may borrow a friend's clay gun and roll with it. I'm in an area with no clay or skeet and I'm not a hunter, I will not allow myself to be that guy with the 870 in the safe for no reason whatsoever.

There will be an update next month with Mr. Handy as a 'premium award', meaning you get him from lunch boxes. Not sure if that means paid of free lunch boxes. But they also said they're adding new enemy invasions including a Deathclaw that raids your vault.

Currently, my price range and dedication level only allows for synthetic bags. That should highlight the focus between lightweight synthetic and mid-weight synthetic.

What temperature sleeping bag for summer use?

I'm replacing a three season bag I lost in a flood, which at the time was a gift and I didn't have any input on it. I'm currently using a Walmart special for summer car camping and to store in my car, but this one would be stored properly under my bed as real camping gear which may also see backpack...

Re: Fallout Shelter - iOS

My friend talked me into it, I'm a non-gamer usually but it was a lot of fun unlocking the rooms and learning the game. Now I'm at 180 guys in a booming vault, I'm just keeping it going with thirty guys looking for new weapons and armor. May start another vault because it was more fun early on.

Re: Always, but ALWAYS keep a B.O.B. Ready!

I wish I couldn't relate, but at one point for similar unorthodox reasons I ended up homeless for a month. I lost access to all my possessions except for a few exceptions, for the most part I spent that month living out of my everyday satchel and what I had in my winter coat. Thankfully I'd always b...

Re: Getting into car camping

Updates: So far I picked up a Thermarest Scout with a gift card. I've found one dealer that will mark the Apex 2xt tent down to 100, but my next two outings got cancelled and I'm needing a trip to justify it. My Walmart rectangle bag should be fine for a while, but long-term I'm looking for a more c...

Getting into car camping

Years back I had a fancy cold weather sleep system, an entry level pack, a cheap bivy, a trunk of backpacking gear...A basement flood and some rough moves later, there went it all except the odds and ends gear. Recently some friends invited me out to their car glamping outing, surge protectors and g...

I use the factory loader...And I'm hoping to eventually break it as an excuse to get a Mag-lula. The one for my ARs is truly fun to use.

Re: Russian-Pattern AK-47s to be manufactured in US?

Initially a PSA AK sounds perfect for my demographic, but seeing as it's a smaller production run it will probably stay more expensive than the AR you can build by waiting for a few of their sales. I'm sure these will sell for those who dig the platform, but I'm curious if they break even without th...

Re: After Action: Front Sight's 2-Day Defensive Shotgun Cla

This is actually perfect timing, I'm being pushed to try a tactical shotgun course despite the fact I do not own nor have ever fired one. I compete in pistol, loved my carbine course and am going to continue with it, but cannot find a solid niche to justify buying and training shotgun except if my f...

Resetting trigger for dry firing AR?

I've truly gotten spoiled using my SIRT laser pistol as a trainer for my Glock, a hundred shots a day typically without racking a slide. Now that I'm working on my AR, I find myself just clicking once...then pretending to pull again like a kid going 'pew pew'. Racking the handle would throw off my c...

Re: Most common ammo's in US?

Some good news for your Glock: Get a Lone Wolf conversion barrel, and you have yourself a 9mm Glock without having to buy another pistol. It's just as cool as it sounds. As for common caliber, I'm not a hunter so I can only comment on the tacticool guys because I worked at a retailer to pay rent for...

Re: How \ Where do you store your magazines?

Right now my safe is mostly empty so I eight AR mags in a miniature Plano can, two with my gear for reloading practice. My 10/22 mags are just in a pouch on the top shelf. My ten round Glock mags for competition used to live on some magnets in the safe loaded with FMJ, but then I got bored of being ...
