Re: Help me choose the right stove for my BOB!

Is there anywhere you can buy a trangia without the nested pots? i like to get my cookware a la carte and I've only seen the trangia in kits.

Also, does anyone have an opinion to vargo xe? I heard filling it was messy, but it is so lightweight that I am intrigued.

Re: Nutella..

mmmmmhhhh, Nutella

The Coscto where I live carries it in huge containers. Bad idea for my fighting trim. I occasionally get a small jar- tasty with a Costco croissant heated at 250 f for a few minutes.

So superior to PB its not even funny.

Agree with Lynxian on the inclusion of lighter reading, although I am happy to see the Little House on the Prairie series. Those are great reading and inspirational on how to be cheerful when one has little. Sun Tzu and Clausewitz seem a little out of place. They are good but pretty dense as far as ...

Re: BOB/INCH/GOOD Bag Clothing (Under Armour)

under armour boxers are synthetic and can stink after a few days (more so than cotton, understand "stink" is relative). I am a huge fan of ex officio travel boxers, though they are pricey. One can wear them for days in the wilderness with few ill effects. I am a big fan of anti-microbial properties ...

I've done a lot of stuff on a lot of dodgy terrain and have never blown my knee out taking cover/falling etc. However, I can see that is a legitimate concern. Perhaps these tactical knee pads would be the right tool for your need. http://store.armyproperty.com/products/Kneepads,-ACU-Pattern,-RFI-Iss...

Re: Any 5.11 Rush 72 owners?

Bought a Rush 72 and put it through the paces a few months ago under some tough travel and some airline time (they accepted it as a carry on despite the fact that it is huge; go cinch straps). Ability to compartmentalize is awesome, you open your main pouch and everything can be stowed and not flopp...

Remember the weight tables the docs use are based on formula-fed babies, so a lower percentile is not automatically cause for alarm for a breast-fed baby

Re: Is North Face a quality and reliable brand to invest in?

I've used North Face products for over a decade. I eventually got rid of a goretex jacket because the DWR wore off, but I have a fleece that wears like iron and is going on 17 years. More recently (as in, not the early 90s) they have cashed in on their name brand and now produce a lot of non-technic...

If you want to make your BIL a pill box, and you're not willing to invest in ballistic glass and other up-armored features, I think you need to ditch French doors/sliding glass doors, decorative fences, etc. A challenger appears. http://cdn.dornob.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/06/modern-style-secret-...

Also, don't forget to secure any social media you may use online. There have been numerous documented cases where people have been robbed because they advertised on their Twitter or Facebook account that they weren't home/out on vacation. Profiles weren't properly secured with privacy options, stra...

Re: Advice for a first-time homebuyer

I am getting ready to buy another house this summer. Because of the number of homes I own they refused to go less than 20%, worried about my exposure I guess, even O/O. They also refused to lock in rates. This is pretty telling so they must be convinced rates are going to jump up again. Rates are i...

Get her a copy of Neil Strauss's "Emergency" Strauss was an urbane, guitar-playing news reporter who had never touched a gun or really considered breakdown of society a reality when he was assigned to do a piece on Y2k. That piece and 9-11 changed him, and sent him on a journey of self-discovery. By...

I am looking into the Andersen doors that Raptor mentioned earlier and hurricane-resistant french/sliding glass doors such as these. http://www.nanawall.com/Learn/peaceofmind.aspx Hurricane-prone areas tend to have codes for "Hurricane-resistant" windows and glass doors. Not sure I'll like the price...

Very cool stuff. Maybe I'll treat myself next time I have need of such things. Interesting that the US distributor is in South Carolina, which is not really known for cold weather.

Activated charcoal, suspended in a water slurry (sometimes but not always with sorbital) is one of the primary treatments for poison ingestion. (rather than inducing vommiting with syrup of ipecac, the older first aid treatment of choice) It comes in small (240ml?) single dose bottles, treatment fr...
