Re: Mod My House! Home Security for new home owner

These are awesome posts, thanks to everyone who has posted You definitely confirmed some of my leanings (motion detectors w/ auto lights), and the general philosophy of simply not being the easiest target on the block to get criminals to go elsewhere. WRT those who mentioned bump keys, I am familiar...

Re: Mod My House! Home Security for new home owner

So . . ,I am prepared to spend thousands, but I'm interested in the value I will get from the expenditure. Spending money alone won't make me feel safe.

Assuming you had the resources, what would you get?

Welcome from the East Coast. I suppose after serving as a PJ that working in a mental institution would be an increase in net sanity level, or am I wrong?

Mod My House! Home Security for new home owner

I am interested in home security measures, including alarm systems, but I don't know where to start. I am interested in modifying it for sustainability as well ...

Re: Advice for a first-time homebuyer

I am in the process of buying. We bid more than 10% lower than list and got it. Seller couldn't justify it through the comps. Location and yard were big factors. Things I'd recommend that haven't been touched (or that are so critical I wish to re-emphasize) 1. Check for HOA/covenants, understand wha...

Re: Bank Failures - 2011

The short answer is that all of these losses are paid by someone and that someone is generally the taxpayers either in increased taxes, bank fees or interest rates. Assuming everything works out and there is no guarantee that will happen; we the consumer will pay for these losses. If things do not ...

Gear Review Massif Flame Retardant Base layers

Greetings ladies and gents. Since I've been lurking on ZS for so long getting value out of the collective experience here, I thought I'd try to do something useful and post a review on some gear I used. A few months ago I had to travel for a few weeks and engage in some work where I was concerned ab...

Re: Incoming - First Child

Congratulations, we have two children and I wanted to ditto a few of the other posts here because we've found these decisions very worthwhile for our children's health and our sanity. Since nutrition is key for your family, I wanted to foot-stomp a few things. 1.Breastfeeding can be a lot of work, b...

Apologies to Jeriah for a milquetoast sophomore post, but I've gotten a lot of value from the collective insights of the content-provi...

ZS is a great place to gain insight on activities, gear, and philosophies, even if we don't agree with everything we see. -Qasim Just out of curiosity, who is "we"? ETA- Sorry if that seemed inflammatory. Welcome! No problem at all. "We" of course means the perennial unsettled global debate on ZS. ...

Salaam Alaikum from the East Coast

Greetings all, thanks for letting me in. I am someone with an interest in preparedness. I work as a consultant to pay the bills. A friend told me about this site years ago and after quite a while of lurking I thought I'd join up and participate. In between work and other commitments I've been slowly...
