Re: New here

About a year ago, as a mod, I started just ignoring any site rules that technically required a person to be a paid member to do a certain thing, such as selling things in the barter section. My reasoning was that if a person doesn't have the ability to become a paid member or maintain their paid me...

I GO 95 pc First Aid Kit - $6.51. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01DDHNMN8/ref=ox_sc_mini_detail?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A20NH3IT2Z71WT&tag=gddeals19-20 Of course you can make a much better IFAK from scratch; but it'll cost you considerably more. Consider this a start towards a better kit. A servicea...

Utah man survives for three weeks in Alaskan wilderness

https://www.cnn.com/2020/01/11/us/man-survives-alaska-wilderness-trnd/index.html This is why it's important to have backup gear and contingency survival plans. It's unbelievably tragic for those passengers, crew and their families. It also takes the concept of 'negligent discharge' to a whole new level.

That island just can't seem to catch a break. Tangential observation but relevant to prepping. I noticed this picture accompanying an article about Puerto Ricans being scared to sleep anywhere now except outside in their yards. https://www.snopes.com/tachyon/2020/01/AP-Puerto-Rico-Earthquake-3.jpg?r...

Re: Wind-proof camp stove

Helpful information. Thanks. I'm curious how expensive it is. Does anyone know? I just did a search and didn't find a purchase option anywhere. All the info is circa 2018, touting the genius of the design. It doesn't look like it has been brought to market market. I'm guessing the higher manufactur...

Re: Rising Tensions in the Persian Gulf

This is a huge escalation. Look for a cyber attack in response. Indeed. Expect retaliatory attacks on Saudi oil facilities, if not strikes against shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. I also predict protests, possibly outright attacks, on US embassies in the region. I'll be gassing up my vehicles afte...

Re: tent heater?

Most of these options make no sense for a 2-person dome tent, as OP specified. Supplemental heating in a tent that small isn't practical unless it's a personal heat source: hot water bottle, electric vest, Zippo hand warmer, or a willing tent-mate. I continue to maintain a good winter bag is the ans...

Re: Light of My Life

Judging from the trailer, it has a little bit of a Birdbox vibe with a health of dose of Children of Men tossed in. Maybe with a sprinkling of The Last of Us . Pushes a lot of my buttons, that's for sure. But based on Stercutus' review, maybe I shouldn't see it; at least not tonight. Seeing how I my...

Amazon deals, whether labeled as a "Lightning Deal" or not, are usually time sensitive. They may be effective for 10 days, 10 hours, or 10 minutes; I have no way of knowing.
