Re: Hammock Camping Questions

SkidvonArk, I've watched your videos and you seem to have your winter hammock camping down. What advice would you and the others give me? I have not bought anything other than a cheap Ozark Trails Walmart Hammock to see if hammock camping would work for me. Now that I have spent a couple nights in ...

Re: Had to bug out today...

Wow. Just found this thread, great info on what a "more likely" kind of bugout event can be. Glad to hear that everything turned out ok. I admit I am one of the bug-in kinda folks, but I currently live only a few miles from a big tire factory - if something happens there, we are Elvis. I did a quick...

Re: Show off your Tent/Shelter pr0n!

I really do love this thread. I am hoping to get out and do a weekend hike with a standard USGI bivy, just because I like to see how the other half lives from time to time. Should be fun. (plus I get a discount at the chiropracter, so meh)

I will be sure to get pics.

Re: 2013/2014 ZS winter MBO chat thread.

Oh yea, I am in. With a 3 month window, I would hope I would get ONE nice, cold, winter-precipitation-filled weekend to tromp out and have fun. Especially since a lot of my backup gear has been sold off, it will be "exciting" to get out and really have to depend on skills to make sure I stay comfy. ...

Re: 2013/2014 ZS winter MBO chat thread.

I personally dont really care whether there is a criteria (hiking distance, overnight, weight of pack or number of children carried) as long as folks get out, document the adventure, and learn from the experience. I for one will be out pushing my personal boundaries, somewhere with a lot of snowcove...

Re: poncho vs rain jacket vs umbrella

Just chiming in; it really depends on the environment. I use a poncho in warm weather, just because it breathes a lot better. For cold weather, I typically switch to rain jacket and pants, since they can serve dual purpose of blocking wind/extra layer. If I am expecting really bad weather, I'll go w...

Re: Bare-Bones Bug Out Bag?

I am a big fan of the minimalist approach - any weight/space saved will translate into more speed or more extra carrying capacity. It is all about having shelter, water, food, and security; but having just the basics. For my GHB ( which is a 24 hour kit, it can be expanded as needed) I carry: golite...

Re: Pistol Carry method with large BOB on your back

I have a Ribz UL front pack (it is in my for sale thread actually) and while it worked well for my FAK, some snickers, and even a small bottle of water, the thing just wasnt sturdy enough for even a G26. Bear in mind I am referring to the silnylon UL version they made for a while, not the heavier co...

Re: water filtration system

Going to have to chime in for the Sawyer Squeeze, for hiking/on the go use. Finally got to try mine out on the trail earlier this week, except for a bit of annoyance at trying to fill the water bladder from very small creeks (flexible bags dont fill too easily unless you can put em under a waterfall...

Pyramid fire FTW. That is my go-to method now.

That looks like a most enjoyable stroll in the woods. Kudos.
