Re: Need a headlamp for work

Ended up going with this Streamlight: http://www.grainger.com/product/STREAMLIGHT-Headlamp-1PJJ3 A couple of nice things: 1. The way the light is made, the lens sits up higher---I can wear my hat normally, and the brim does not cause a shadow. 2. I used it for a while on Saturday---the medium setti...

Re: Zuca / Lifesecure rolling cases

Interesting. Haven't seen it mentioned but the Zuca cases are designed to be used as a sitting stool as well as a rolling case. I work as a Medic in the film industry and they're very popular with the folks who do hair and make-up as an on-set case for their supplies. Gives them a place to sit while...

Re: Need a headlamp for work

I've used a variety of headlamps over the years, the latest one is a Pelican 2750. Typical 3 AAA battery setup, has 4 operating modes, 2 brightness, 1 strobe and a red LED for the night vision geeks. You can find them on that Mom and Pop website Amazon.com for under 30 bucks. Couple of nice features...

I can't help but laugh a bit at the clown who tries to insult another person by claiming they should "check themselves..." Does the expression about the pot calling the kettle black mean anything to you? One of the people in this disaster lists his credentials in every post, one of the others is a t...

Re: EMS Refresher Course

So as a reservist, I used to maintain my EMT-B on the national level through army training. A little over a year ago I had to change my MOS from 68W10 M6 to 68C and was no longer sent to medic tables which means my EMT-B expired in April of this year. I have a higher level of education in the medic...

Re: Paramedics out there with a bag recommendation?

Ferno
Iron Duck
Conterra

They all make perfectly adequate traditional styled first aid bags. They'll last a typical layperson a lifetime.

Given your extremely limited specifications, it's hard to recommend anything more specific.

Re: Looking for a specific aid bag.

I guess what I'm not understanding is why you'd need a medical bag to transport supplies. Seems like any old backpack would carry the supplies just as easy and at a fraction of the cost. Especially if you'll be using Conterra bags for the actual medical work. I use Pelican cases to store and transpo...

Re: Looking for a specific aid bag.

Im getting into USAR, and likely some true contract wilderness work. So the idea of one profoundly gigantic ruck that holds everything (up to and including the aforementioned attending) is appealing. I dont actually plan on carrying it much, other than rucking it to wherever it will live. For every...

Re: Vendors to avoid. Kaweah River Forge, gear2survive

I think, in fact I know that the key principle that gets ignored by unscrupulous vendors is that they pay themselves first instead of last. Bladeforums is full of threads about dishonest makers and vendors that follow a very predictable pattern, they start to get popular, they charge in advance, the...

Re: Vendors to avoid. Kaweah River Forge, gear2survive

The knife issue is easy to understand. The bushcraft forum is if nothing else a effective merchandizing platform, just go to the portal and see how many posts are vender or vender fanboy generated. The guy made what looks to be a nice product, got over run and didn't handle the demand or business e...

Re: Vendors to avoid. Kaweah River Forge, gear2survive

Interestingly enough, after a recent number of complete shut downs, the Bushcraft forums are all marked "private" now. Except of course for the ones paid for by vendors. If you're not a member you can no longer read anything but the vendor sub forums. I've ordered several knives from makers, most no...

Vendors to avoid. Kaweah River Forge, gear2survive

Do a Google search on either to read the particulars. In a nutshell, both of these companies have ongoing issues with taking money and failing to deliver items paid for. You can read about gear2survive on Bladeforums and the ongoing saga about Kaweah on the BushcraftUSA forum. Good lessons can be le...

Re: The Knowledge - How to Rebuild Our World from Scratch

I think the key point is the use of the term, rebuild.

The advantage of trying to remake or rebuild a thing or a process rather than create them from nothing is inestimable.

Re: Exhausting night trying to be a Good Samaritan.

Did the idea of simply calling the police occur to you?

The woman claims that she was the victim of an assault, dealing with crime victims is what the police do for a living.

Glad it mostly turned out ok but you took an awful lot of chances that could have been easily avoided.
