Re: Game in the making. Feedback appreciated.

can you make it multiplayer, a la Gauntlet? making this an app (for android or iphone) would probably go over well, especially if you could log on and play with/against friends.

interesting idea- can you set up a 'fog' where anything not in your character's line of sight is obscured?

Re: Food Storage Ideas for New Plastic Containers

were these new or used? if you use them for dry goods (like grains, beans, nuts, or cheezits), I would use it for bulk storage and have a smaller container that you can scoop from easily, and use this container to refill that (smaller) container. whatever you use them for, label them! the last thing...

Re: Advice for a first-time homebuyer

axel- yes. the public transit situation in St. Louis isn't pretty, but it's workable. Luckily they expanded the metrolink to another line, which would go past both of our schools, and this extension is in a decent neighborhood (which is one of the ones we're looking at). thanks for the reminder, tho...

Re: Advice for a first-time homebuyer

Timing is everything they say... It's interesting you should ask about purchasing a home, as I've just recently committed myself to being more active in something and that happens to be ZS at the moment. Even more interesting that my wife happens to be very well versed to the ins and outs of financ...

Re: Advice for a first-time homebuyer

The reason I'm shopping for the amount I am is that while I've got a good income now, this is only going to last until August, if things go the way I want it (going back to school), and I don't want to over-extend myself, not to mention the student loans need to be paid off first (I can defer them w...

Re: How to Protect Yourself From Scam Artists

if an online purchase or job offer seems fishy (something doesn't smell right), do a google search on their (business) phone number. Google will find it and tell you where the company is, and will likely find any forums where people are complaining about it. always do a google search for the company...

One I forgot . Maybe someone else said it . Payment should not exceed one weeks paycheck . good idea. we're looking for places that the monthly (with insurance and taxes) do not exceed our current rent. house report: most were unlivable foreclosures. some were cool, most would be cool with 30-50k i...

Re: Kindle to hold survival library

if you're going to get something like that, you may as well get something with a good color screen (to show images/videos) and wifi/internet capability. I got my lady a micro cruz reader from borders; I think they're still around $120. she loves it. that said, get a wall charger, a charger that take...

Re: How I lost

look at it this way: you learned whom you can trust in a relatively relaxed and not immediately threatening situation, and you did so in a way that leaves no shadow of a doubt. that is priceless information. it sucks, but it's better to learn now than when you need to raise bail money, find a babysi...

40 days of a flooding storm eh? uhm... why am I the first to point out this glaring opportunity for a genesis joke? Because here at ZS we try to stay clear of politics and religion for the most part. How about: "How reasonable and wise of you to back up all your data, in case your computer goes belly-up. Something else I didn't consider until a week ago: There's an active coal mine in the area, and They're mining high-sulfur coal. I found out via my yearly quality check that sulfur has contaminated my well. nice. :| you may wish to look into the location of where their retention ponds are. even if ...

thanks for all the excellent advice! I didn't want to get too specific with my situation so that the thread would be good for everyone, but suffice to say a location out in the country (or even the far suburbs) is not an option at this point.

Re: I'm not feeling the whole Global Warming thing right now

there's a lot of good advice here, but I have a few points to add: for bad weather driving: 4WD vehicles still skid, they just do so diagonally. It's not a license to act crazy. Driving is the same with heavy rains- stay in the middle lanes on the highways; watch out on turns and especially on overp...

re: your driveway- put up a 'private property' sign, or possibly a gate (or both). that should keep out most folks, as well as google contractors. feel free to pepper the (metal) private property sign with birdshot so it gives off that properly menacing 'country' look that cityfolk are wary about. :...

a lot of folks have good points here, so I won't rehash the ones that have been covered. 1: did you find out where the bullet eventually stopped? if you don't know (or know that it entered someone else's house), write down a list of witnesses while it's still fresh in your memory. It's very likely t...

as it says, what sort of advice would you give to a first-time home buyer? Points of interest that more knowledgeab...
