Re: only 1 long gun(other than .22)

I don't see how you could put a .22 rifle before a combat rifle. Again - situations vary. Might choose any combination of the four weapons (pistol/SG/Rifle/.22) depending. But - my #1 goal in the majority of SHTF situations is BUG IN. In which case I will have a good selection of weapons, and more ...

Re: Why arent these in your BOB

In my extended kit I have some of those little crest wisps. Very small, very convenient. Not totally oral care...but better than nothing. Also, as I have more than a crown or two, I've recently started looking at crown repair/cavity sealer. And pain medication for oral use. A bad tooth will take you...

Need a simple two way radio recommendation

I am looking for a simple pair of two way radios to use for tri-purpose: a) General kid contact around the neighborhood b) Camping c) SHTF/Bug out communication I have been thinking about something like the Midland GXT1000 / Motorola sort of walkie-talkie looking radios. I need two - but three or mo...

Re: only 1 long gun(other than .22)

Ok - here we go: In a SHTF scenario, I think the handgun will rule. Flexible, easy to carry, concealable, just all around the best weapon to have first and foremost for personal defense. That said - if I could recommend one other gun to have - 12g pump: flexible enough to shoot anything from a bear ...

Re: LA Police Gear 3 Day Pack?

Great feedback guys. I like to run on the lighter side of things so it would have:

Bladder (gets hot in florida)
Catoma Bednet
Tarp
Poncho
Liner
Small bivy bag

And most of the rest of the space MRE's/Mountain House etc...

Re: Fishing Kit, Survival Review

Having been camping in Florida a number of times, my kids have caught some decent or numerous fish with far less. again - arounf the water, at least here, you really could catch a considerable amount with little effort.

Awesome kit, by the way. My bag kit is way less than that and it would work.

LA Police Gear 3 Day Pack?

Anyone have one of these? It's a little more pack than I want, and it doesn't specifiy hydration compatible - but for thirty bucks might not be able to pass...any feedback/experience?

Re: 10 Essential Items?

I REALLY like to have three of each of the following, in three different locations: #1 Knife - the one tool to have when you are only having one; Protection, building more wood tools, general utility, you name it. I feel naked without some kind of knife. #2 Water - and a way to contain and purify it...

Re: My First BOB

Let me ask this: How many days do you want the bag to sustain you? 1 day? 3 days? A week? That will drive the contents. However - overall; Filter + Bottle Fire x3 Only one food I'd add some purify tabs, another container or so Maybe a striker (my preference) And a bunch more food Paracord More knive...

Re: Most cost effective cooking setup for a bug in?

This is one of those moments where ZS maybe goes overboard... I open the sliding glass doors and roll my grill into the house, along with a few cans of propane. Done. Addendum: Propane is dangerous, being explosive and toxic. Never use less than tip top equipment in 100% condition and be aware that...

Re: OK - Catoma Bednet is on the way!

- You will be hard pressed to build or assemble a better rain fly than what Catoma makes for it. It is basically a self support tent that goes over the bug net. What happens in a local where you cant tie off for a tarp shelter? Also find and carry another bugnet band (the tube that forms the struct...

Re: Knepper's BOB

Plan baby plan!!!!!! Make a list of what you NEED! Knife - sounds good there. I like three: Big utility, folder, and swiss army (climber is my preference) Water - carried (you have that), ability to purify (tabs!), and a backup - I like the filter straw. I'd add something besides the camelbak. Bottl...

Re: BOB shelf life?

I check my BOB every 6 months, but now I am wondering what the shelf life of a glock is... The shelf life of a Glock should be infinite. By which I mean it should be left on the shelf of whatever store it was found in forever.... I keep my Bug Out stuff fresh because I use it on every camping trip ...

OK - Catoma Bednet is on the way!

I have finally chosen a new direction and upgrades for my shelter/pack. My base is a Catoma Bednet. Now I need to accesorize a bit! suggestions please: #1 I need some sort of rain fly. I know they make them for this, but I'd really rather work a basic tarp - preferably in Brown, tan, or green. Thinn...

Re: New bag= Revised BOB Reviews welcome (img heavy)

The AR-7b gets a lot of grief on gun sites. However - I use CCI Mini-Mags in mine and it hasn't had a hiccup in I don't know how long. It's more than accurate enough to snag a rabbit, squirrel or other critter for dinner. It's a SURVIVAL rifle. Think of it as that and you'll be fine. Very nice gear,...
