Re: Minimalist(ish) Get Home Bag/GHB

I like it! Comment: I note all the fire gear is in one container. Might want to put one piece of fire gear, knife, and water etc.... In a separate bag. drop the minimal minimum in a pocket, the rest is in the bag. I keep a pouch with all of that clipped to my bag. Grab the bag, unclip and drop the p...

Re: E.D.C. with B.O.A.T.

Overall I like it. Some good suggestions above. First: Better to have something basic and effective than be saving up for the high end, and not have it when you need it! Get whatever you can to fulfill the mission, upgrade as you can. My multi-tool is some cheap chinese thing I can't even identify! ...

Re: Kuru-free's current B.O.B. (advice needed)

I need to know two things: #1 How many days is this supposed to get you through? #2 What is the terrain/climate? Off the cuff: Shelter looks good (depending on climate) Water - I'd add another water container, and way to gather water. (could use space blanket for this. Remember - tabs take time to w...

Re: Questions About B.O.B.

Question #1 How many days do you want to Bug Out with this bag, and at what level: Subsistence/survival, moderate level, high style and comfort? Let's start with that, as well as the general terrain and climate. we can work from there. Camelback did come to mind immediately, i have to say. But - Ali...

Greatings - good stuff for stomping. do you have official kit gear? Let's see the whole set.

I'm in florida - so I'm a Multicam fan. I call it Floridaflage. But I agree - camo has changed, but isn't much better than woodland.

Re: Initial Firearms Prep for the Average American - my thou

I have spoke/discussed/written on this subject often. Grew up with guns all around, still have a bunch. Love to shoot. It's a hobby (among other things). At the end of the day, I say One 12g pump and one handgun of your choice. I don't really care what they are as long as the SG is 12g (but I could ...

Re: A guide to an economic battery of guns.

A comment on over penetration: It never fails to amaze me how people get all down into the minutia about how many walls this or that will penetrate and will it over penetrate etc... I live by this simple And superbly PRACTICAL view of it. ANY ROUND THAT WILL STOP A THREAT WILL PENETRATE AT LEAST ONE...

Re: Eagle Industries vs Kelty Redwing vs LA Police Gear

The real issue here is Kelty/Eagle quality and cost vs the LA bag. I went with LAPG. However - I actually use a system of four bags: Survival Pouch, Main shoulder Bag, Butt/Belt bag, and main pack. The main pack is dedicated to bladder, food, and shelter only for the most part. So it is by no means ...

I tend to a) go light for EDC and b) Actively change knives depending on circumstances...but: For EDC - usually either A Swiss Spartan or Climber, and lately a Gerber Mini FAST draw. For EDC, I don't feel the need for much. I have three kids - Swiss technology rules! For Bug Out - HUGE fan of knives...

Re: A guide to an economic battery of guns.

Agreed Bob - Even some used "premium weapons" can be had on the cheap that are perfectly workable: Used 500/870 shotgun: < $200 Used Glock 19: ~ 400 (look for a police trade-in) Used .22: < $100 as I always say - better to have something now than NOT have something awesome when you need it. I do how...

Re: A guide to an economic battery of guns.

I have long thought on this issue and decided the following: The one gun to have when you are having only one: 12g Shotgun. Highest utility weapon there is. In SHTF/EOTWAWKI, utility is ultra high value. Bird shot for hunting birds, game shot for game, buck shot for self defense, slugs for deer (or ...

Re: New at Brownell's: AK Aimpoint side rail mounts!

I think you are missing the point with the co-witness. I know many are fans of it. But that mount is just plain sexy! And the important point...it is quick release. The whole idea behind co-witness is that if the optic fails ou don't have to take it off. With a quick release, this is a non-issue. Fl...

First, I'm going to shoot as many as possible, as far away as possible with the 06

Then, inside 150 yards or so, I'm going to move to the AR (Ultimate Zombie hunter, IMO...)

When I'm out, I'll take the XD within 25 yards

Re: Lever Guns Talk Thread

AMAZING love for the LEVER! To this day, it's still probably the most natural weapon for me to shoot. These days, all I have are fairly practical/tactical guns. But man...somewhere on the list is to get a lever again. Marlin 336 in .357 magnum (and a Ruger gp100 6" to go with it!): 38 for plinking, ...

I have a Henry. Mine is 100% with CCI Minimags. Besides the mag in the stock, one goes IN the action itself. That's 16 rounds. After that, Honestly, how much ammo do you want? I only use CCI Minimags in mine. In a pinch, the box would drop in my pocket. I'd carry maybe 3 mags extremely comfortably i...

I just noticed you are in Tampa. I don't know where - bay area is huge. As I said - if you want to go with the more is more phil...
