Re: Howl's Garden

Looks nice! I just started my first garden this season since I was a kid, and I am envious. I wonder though, is it normal for vegetables to be so close together? I bought a great book at Goodwill and it has a big chart of minimum distances between plants, and I think the chart would have something ...

Re: The weekends events - Preperation related, input requested.

It sounds quite good to me, but I do agree with the other posters about burying personal items and the "legal claim" comment by mantis. One thing to also keep in mind is that this sounds more like a temporary place to escape to rather than a semi-permanent holdout, because my interpretation of a PAW...

Re: Gardening in a disaster

Just starting my first garden since I was a kid, and frankly it's a lot of fun. I picked up a super cheap vegetable and fruit book at Goodwill, and it has amazing information targeted at not only small gardens but very large ones too. Mine is 6 x 6, and if all goes well this season I'm going to doub...

Re: A simple system for food storage

I essentially do the same thing for my food pantry. When I was growing up, I knew several Mormon families that kept very large pantries that were composed of nothing but regular household staples, and I always thought that was cool. This is the technique I have used to stockpile food, and it's been ...

Thanks to both of you. What's with all the pie-haters though? Have a disturbing marrionberry memory or something? I did have an awesome lemon cake recently, but anything with lemon is awesome.

Re: So California exit issues (No 56k)

I grew up in Big Bear, located in the San Bernadino Mountains. Other than the ski resort, it's a pretty small town at an elevation of about nine thousand feet. In a SHTF situation, the residents may not take too kindly to an influx of Los Angelenos ("flatlanders" is the common slur) but in a scenari...

Another Portlander...

Hi all! I've been lurking for a little bit and thought I'd go ahead and take the plunge. I've been interested in disaster preparedness and zombies for quite awhile now (not necessarily in that order) and I feel like I have something to contribute to the various discussions. To sum myself up: fast zo...
