Re: Ebola All Over The Place

Not to sound like a conspiracy theorist..but does anyone think perhaps the virus could be in these "vaccines" they are giving people in Africa? There would be no way to tell... Ethical, logistical, and literally all other concerns aside, why would you even bother? They're clearly infecting each oth...

Re: Ebola All Over The Place

Rice water will work too. I had that when I was struck with something terrible in Costa Rica. You cook rice in like 2x as much water as usual, throw in a bit of salt, drain the rice, and drink the water (also you can eat the rice). I wasn't a huge fan, but anything food-related that I looked at sent...

Re: Another Police Shooting in St. Louis Triggers New Protes

In short, the people protesting have a deep, deep amount of mistrust of the police and do not trust what's in the reports. The protestors are placing much more credence in witness testimony by the deceased's friends than they are in the accounts given by the police department. This 'started' with t...

Re: Ebola All Over The Place

The sidewalk looks familiar. Notice the car near the truck has been wrapped in heavy plastic? The silver car is not. The side walk sure looks clean though. For those of you interested in gear they are wearing what in effect are rain suits and not using SCBA gear. Does it? There's several trees in t...

Re: Ebola All Over The Place

The thing is, you're making a lot of very large assumptions. You're assuming that there is body fluid on the sidewalk, you're assuming that days in sunlight isn't enough to kill any viral particles that are left, and you're assuming that the sidewalk is outside of the infected man's apartment (the o...

Re: Ebola USA

We already have an Ebola thread that's a pretty decent source of information; I'm going to merge this one with it and change the title of the other one to just be something about Ebola.

Re: Ebola in West Africa

That's fine, and sure, pressure-wash the sidewalks. But if that photo was taken today, and the patient went to the hospital for real on Sunday, it's been four days. It's quite likely fine, especially if he didn't actually throw up on the sidewalk.

Re: Ebola in West Africa

'Cleaning the sidewalk' seems rather different from 'cleaning up vomit'. And if it's been a couple of days... as far as we know it doesn't survive well in the environment without a host.

Re: Ebola in West Africa

Right, my point was just that without context, the excerpt you quoted sounded significantly more... dire... than seemed appropriate, and it wasn't so much 'different results' as 'different results in a completely different context'. :)

Re: Ebola in West Africa

1:10 bleach solution for bodies and excreta, 1:100 for bedding and whatnot. Personally I'd probably use the 1:10 for everything just in case, but as long as it's freshly made, that's what the WHO recommends.

http://jid.oxfordjournals.org/content/196/Supplement_2/S142.full Other than in samples grossly contaminated with blood, EBOV was not found by any method on environmental surfaces and by RT-PCR on the skin of only 1 patient. These results suggest that environmental contamination and fomites are not ...

Re: Introducing "Thanks"

If you look at the Thanks Toplist, three out of the top five thanked posts are in Fiction, and four out of the top five topics are. The one remaining post is the ZS045 chat thread. While encouraging writers is good, you can just as easily do that with a post, and it doesn't drown out posts that are ...
