Re: Baltimore Riots

Aikibiker, this is an unofficial warning for ignoring multiple posts in this thread to stop with the arguing about whether or not Gray deserved or brought his death on himself. I don't know how I can be any clearer.

Re: Baltimore Riots

http://www.newsweek.com/watch-baltimore-state-attorney-offers-update-investigation-freddie-grays-death-327463 It seems as though charges are going to be filed against the officers involved in Gray's death. Speaking of which, a preliminary autopsy has been conducted and the findings presumably lead ...

Re: Baltimore Riots

Again, root causes are probably best addressed on other sites. It is no doubt a complex combination of issues, many of which are explicitly political, and which are nothing that need to be argued at length about on ZS. Unfortunately, as the Ferguson thread not too long ago amply demonstrated, we app...

Re: Baltimore Riots

It would be lovely if we could keep away from backseat quarterbacking whether or not anyone involved deserved to die for whatever they did or didn't do. None of us have all of the facts, and the situation seems to be murky at best, as the spinal injury vs lead poisoning issue so clearly demonstrates...

Ajiaco . From you know where, The Best of Bon Appetit . It's a Colombian soup, which I love, although it takes a while to make. I have Thoughts on how to make it a bit less work, though, so I will be making it again. Often. Because it is magnificent. Bits I skipped are crossed out, edits are in ita...

Seems they found plague in some fleas.... in Arizona?! http://www.azfamily.com/story/28724768/fleas-test-positive-for-plague-near-flagstaff?autostart=true It was introduced to the US in the 1900s, I think to control prairie dog populations but possibly by rats on ships. Either way, native rodents a...

Re: Cooking (poorly) with Shrapnel

Here's a recipe I am currently all about, because it is delicious . As usual, adapted from The Best of Bon Appetit . The original recipe is for 12 people but I don't own any cookware that is even sort of large enough to hold that much food, so I cut it in half and it fills my 6 qt casserole most of ...

Zucchini pizzas, for when you're too lazy to make real dinner but want to make leftovers more interesting. Adapted from The Best of Bon Appetit (seriously you guys, I love this cookbook). Take a number of zucchinis. I have four large ones, but that seems like a lot, now that I have them cut up. Cut ...

Re: Near-Death Experiments in Food

I used tamarind paste on valentine's day that has been open, in the fridge, for about six months. The internet said it was probably OK, no sensory defects were noted, and nothing bad happened. Hurrah!
