Re: Firearms Chat 3: #pewpewlife

I've split off the arguing. If you folks can't keep the fighting, name calling, and chest thumping to a minimum, or at least take it to PM when it gets excessive, we won't have firearms chat anymore and we'll be handing out warnings.

The two of you need to take it to PM. This isn't necessarily the end of mod action on this, but for now, calm down or fight in private.

Ditto anyone else who wants to weigh in.

Re: How to Prepare Against a Mumbai Style Attack

Facebook has a feature they activate if necessary that allows people to check themselves in as 'safe'. I know Wee Drop used it, and it certainly seems useful. Of course, that assumes that data/internet is still working, but it beats 20 frantic phone calls as everyone who knows you're in the area of ...

Also, just dropping a note so people aren't confused, there were a number of what ended up being duplicate posts in here (because Stercutus was kind enough to compile a bunch of separate posts into a single one), so I deleted the doubles. YOu can see all of the posts together here: https://www.zombi...

Re: How to Prepare Against a Mumbai Style Attack

I imagine they're not the easiest thing in the world to make, at least not without a certain degree of learning curve. I mean, I have a chemistry background and my best friend does a lot of synthetic chemistry with unstable compounds, but I don't know the first thing about a) how to get materials wi...

New recipe! This one is something approximating jambalaya, although this is the only jambalaya I've ever eaten because I'm allergic to shrimp so I can't vouch for its authenticity. It's a kludge of a couple different recipes, mostly from a Food and Wine Easy Weeknight Dinners magazine I impulse boug...

That was why we removed the option for Fiction. There was just too much thanking going on and it was drowning out prep-related posts.

I'm no advocating for women to to be easier, but maybe to give that guy when seem a little odd a second chance, the life you save may be your own I'd argue that they aren't killers because they can't get girlfriends, it's that they can't get girlfriends because they're weird, creepy, have standards...

My attitude towards insects is that if I don't know about them, I don't care. So I probably won't look too hard.

Re: Freeze-thaw cycles and poorly stored foods. Am I gonna d

Well, careful inspection revealed two cans and a jar of pasta sauce that were definitely spoiled; two dented cans that we are getting rid of just in case; and some cans with a bit of corrosion around the seals so those are going away also. The rest, including the grapeseed and olive oils because the...

Re: Freeze-thaw cycles and poorly stored foods. Am I gonna d

Wait, I thought acidity helped preserve food. I can see it possibly eating through cans, albeit at a slow rate, but in a glass jar? The tops aren't popped out, which to me says they haven't been compromised. Even anaerobic botulism gives off gas as a byproduct, and that's what I'd be worried about i...

Re: Freeze-thaw cycles and poorly stored foods. Am I gonna d

Yeah, I pretty much draw the line at things that may kill me. Just make me sick, well, I've posted enough in Near-Death Experiences In Food to give a good idea of what I'll roll the dice on (hint: basically anything, including bacon with the moldy bits cut off).
