Re: Red Cross Disaster Fund Is Depleted
Firestorm might be the guy to ask, he's a bigshot Director or some such for the RC here in Denver. Of course, he might be in one of the soggy places right now so he might be hard to get a hold of. Not a big shot, just one of the lucky paid staff who get to support the amazing volunteer. Going into ...

Re: Disaster Response Opportunities Await You
Flatlinesup,
The SB Disaster Response teams did an amazing job. We requested the kitchen and they were up in about 8 hours. Averaged about 2000 meals a day; supported by our 4 mobile ERV. My hat goes off to the Southern Baptist, you're part of a great organization.

Disaster Response Opportunities Await You
Folks, If you are interested in helping during times of disaster, please get affiliated and trained before the disaster. I'm currently working an American Red Cross response and have burned up hours explaining to spontaneous volunteers, "we are only using folk who are trained and affiliated with Red...

Re: Is it normal to have this many tornadoes?
Not only is it a high year the tornado's are unusual. I'm currently responding to the tornado in Windsor CO. I have never seen a tornado this large and destructive so close to the foothills of the Rockies. We plan for this in our NE parts of the state, but this is unprecedented. Thank you for the gr...

I have used the Whisperlite International for about 8 years now. I primarily burn white gas, but have run unleaded through on a few occasions (for fun). Any of the MSR multi-fuels work great. Last year I bought the new pump/valve that all new stove come with. It has great control, I've been able to ...

Hundreds of dollars were seized and drugs recovered, and 1,292 traffic violations were handed out to speeding terrorists and illegally parked terrorists. Damn, I'm a terrorist because I received a parking violation a few months back. This operation is flawed with poor PR and media coverage. I also ...

The spiritual care teams existed before 9/11. It is a group of faith based members dedicated to handling the spiritual needs of disaster clients. This team really came about to handle aviation accidents. The NTSB requested the Red Cross organize non-denominational services at the scene of the accide...

Re: Emergency Workers/Volunteers - When will you bug out?
Background: I'm a volunteer with the local amateur radio emergency service here in NYC. We work with the red cross and a few other local organizations to provide communications and some logistics support in the event of a disaster. Question: If SHTF and you have an obligation to assist, how long wo...

You might be right medic. Everything today is based on national and international resources. An example is our local water treatment plants only store 4 days worth of chloride. So it's fair to assume after the transportation network collapses we have 4 days of clean tap water. In 1918 anything not p...

If you are relying on others to help you in an event like a pandemic, you are shit out of luck. The only way you might not get infected is to isolate and quarantine your family and do it early. You need to get informed, and get off your asses and build your supplies up. Do not aggravate the situatio...

WOW, I haven't been winter camping in about 6 years. I guess this year is the year to start-up again. Imp and jetsiphon, short of another round of blizzards, I should have more time this winter, let me know how I can help. My recommendation for winter camping is layer. Be prepared to take off or add...
