Re: New Ruger Mini in .300blk

If you want it, get it before it gets discontinued like the 6.8 Mini. I wondered what happened to that. This is why I stick to really, really major calibers, and I try to stick to pretty common platforms. I'll always be able to buy a spare 5.56mm AR bolt or a new 12-gauge Remington 870 barrel. Like...

If you want to spend a lot more for incremental weight decrease: http://www.v7weaponsystems.com/ Damn. One thing I'm thinking about is not being "Penny wise, pound foolish," or in this case, "Ounce wise, pound foolish." In lightweight or ultralight backpacking, the general idea is to look at your h...

Re: Firearms Chat 3: #pewpewlife

Ordered from Midway, a carbine buffer spring, ALG combat trigger, and a gunsmith's lower parts kit (their name for "no trigger, no pistol grip). Came to $120 total, shipped. Lower was $80, shipped; no FFL fee because I know a guy. Well, a girl. A human. With an FFL. So I've got a new lower for $200....

Re: Firearms Chat 3: #pewpewlife

So GWACS has blemished CAV-15 lowers on sale for $75. I bought one. In the short term, I'm going to buy a lower parts kit and a carbine spring (I've got a buffer), and run my BCM 16" lightweight middy upper on it. In the longer term, I think I want to build an ultralight upper for it. This is, of co...

If you are going to spend a stack for a "tactical 1911" I'd just get a Kimber. Not on your list I see... but still. Kimber is overpriced and their QC is barely above Remington. Second. The problem with Kimber is that, apparently, they USED to be good, and that reputation (and the commensurate prici...

Are Hungarian AK mags good? Is 10 bucks a pop for one good? I found a good deal and I might jump on it with a couple of 20rd tankers Yes, they are good. That is a good price. Hungarians are the go-to for 20 rounders; they made a bunch for the AMD-65. They are good to go. Oh, and two 20-rounders fit...

I had a shed built for storage, but chose its location in part so it could serve as a "hard backstop" for archery. Not the thing you WANT your arrows to hit (because it breaks arrows and puts holes in your shed), but something that keeps them from hitting the neighbor's dog if you miss or penetrate ...

Re: Shotguns - The most overrated weapon for zombies

Updates: VEPR12 now has a cheap red dot and a white light on it, as well as an Ares Armor sling. I have shot it (before it had these accessories) and it was fun. Haven't done any coconut testing on it, but I'll say this: a magazine-fed semi-auto seems to do everything a pump shotgun does, better. EX...

Re: Shotgun barrels, mag capacity, and the Maverick 88.

I'm personally of the "just buy a second shotgun" persuasion, myself. I don't hunt, but I do have a shotgun I could hunt with, if I so desired. Here are my observations: Keep an eye open for a used shotgun. I bought a Mossberg 500 from a gun shop in Chicago for $125, and it came with both an 18" cyl...

Allow me to sing you the song of my people. First, I was 18, and I decided that I should buy a gun. I bought a Mosin, because Big 5 had them on sale for $50. So I bought a Mosin because it was a gun I could afford. Then I was dumb, and instead of keeping a funky cool collectible milsurp gun, I dumpe...

Re: Marines Get to Pick Glocks in Preference to to 1911s.

It makes sense. Glocks hold up really well, and don't have as many problems as some other pistols do in harsh environments. And they are easy enough to get off-the-shelf parts for. Besides, they are available all over the world at this point. It isn't like they are meant to be a primary arm for the...
